Speed Test of Globe Broadband, Smart Bro, Smart 3G and PLDT Mydsl

POSTED BY on Dec 13 under VoIP Philippines Provider, VoIP Service Providers with 11,476 views

Most of you have probably read my Review of Globelines Broadband, Smart Bro and PLDT Mydsl. This time I am presenting the speedtest of my ISPs. Tests were taken at 9:30 AM on December 13. Usually mornings have slower connections, hence I tested it at this time. I used speedtest.net. Remember, I am a paying customer based in Pasig City, close to Quezon city and Marikina to have an idea of my location.

Globelines Broadband
Globelines Broadband
Upload: 980 kbps
Download: 355 kbps
Promised speed: 1 MBps at 98%

Smart 3G (connecting my Nokia e51 to my macbook)
smart 3g
Upload: 723 kbps
Download: 107 kbps
Promised speed: No data

Smart Bro (desktop computer)
Smart bro

Upload: 305 kbps
Download: 235 kbps
Promised speed: 256kbps reaches 100% (They might have also upgraded to 512 kbps)

PLDT Mydsl
PLDT mydsl

Upload: 436 kbps
Download:300 kbps
Promised speed:768 kbps reaches only 56%

The winner is still Globe Broadband followed by Smart Bro and Smart 3G. The loser is PLDT Mydsl.

I should already report PLDT myds for disconnecting my internet service every 15 minutes. Since installation in February, intermittent connection is the only regular thing they have given me.

Couple of days ago i got the globelines 3mb internet only installed here in bacolod, getting 300kb download and 110kb upload so not anywhere near the speed i am supposed to get. Had to prepay a year in advance since i am a foreigner on a tourist visa…Supposed to be fixed in a week or two according to globelines so guess i have to wait and see.

Smartbro is annoying. My connection goes on and off. I probably would have to change provider. AsAP. thanks.

  11. jayb April 17, 2009 12:34 pm

gusto ko talaga Globelines broadband… sobrang bilis 948kbps download niya at di pa tumitigil connection!! unlike pldt mydsl… hay sobrang daming problem… parating tumitigil connection!

  12. robert April 23, 2009 06:05 am

Among the internet service providers, PLDT is the best…i have 1mbps promised speed and my download is 850-950kbps sometimes it goes over 1mpbs…
I’ts more reliable and fast compared to any other providers here in the phils…trust me i’ve tried everything…. If u will test ur speed, don’t open any website yet just the speed test website…and u will know ur real download speed….

  13. robert April 23, 2009 06:14 am

This person on top who gave comments about the speeds is not telli9ng the truth….smart broadbands are not reliable…goes on and off…globe is even better than smart but still it goes on and off and just recently, they had no service for about a week they had connection problems….and of course, nothing beats PLDT My dsl…even if I have homenetworking at home, still i have a very good connection. I love downloading movies from utorrent, mininova etc and it’s very good it only takes an hour to download dvd quality movie…unlike smart and globe, it took me 2days to download a movie…hahahaha these providers have to do something…LOL

  14. pucha May 25, 2009 08:17 pm

  15. rinoa May 29, 2009 01:01 pm

i am a pldt mydsl subscriber and i can say that their service is very unreliable. they can’t fix the problem with my internet. they said it was the wiring — we rewired it and still the same poor internet connection. our internet are always on and off and the worst is, it will be off for half a day. i have decided to switch to a new provider because of their poor service.

  16. shitty globe wireless June 15, 2009 10:55 am

shit talaga ang globe wireless connection… nung una okay okay pa. pero after a month kalbaryo na. i’m getting 2-4 KBps for download… TAMA yang nakita nyo 2-4 SHIT!!!!!!!!! SKY NALANG SANA

  17. wa la lang June 26, 2009 10:25 am

stupid comparison. kasi isang server lang ginamit sa test. globebroadband is ok kung bayantel ang test server. smartbro is ok kung pldt ang test server…

  19. rhea July 10, 2009 06:38 pm

Tama yan, pangit talaga globe. Napakaintermittent ng connection. Nakakuha ako ng 10kbps na speed sa 1mbps DAW na plan? Business account pa ito ha? Dangshit! Pwe!

  20. Mark Lavalle July 12, 2009 10:40 pm

Hello everyone. smart bro gamit ko and so far ala ako problema. may net shoppe ako with 10 seats ok ang connection.

sa nakikita ko, globe is the best provider.. well thats for me.. i live here in one of the provinces of batangas.. kase ba dahil wala silang ka competition dito?

actually meron.. theres digitel here.. and also smartbro, which is under ng pldt, kaya di na sila naglagay ng landbased internet here..i used to have 384kbps connection from globe, one of the firsts here, nung time na yun mabilis na sha, that was 3-4 years ago.. but after a while nun dumami na yung me connection, it seems like it started to deteriorate.. mejo sa gaming e puro lag na sha..

then mid last year i applied for smart as my backup, cuz i bought a load balancing router.. so now i have 2 connection, 1 globe and 1 smart, and using it at same time.. one thing i noticed is.. atleast globe is honest.. dba was supposed to be(based again on my experience), if your ping is high, then your connection is slow.. well thats the case, globe has high ping, and by that time, has also slow connection, but smart has low ping, bout 40, sometimes lower.. pero as we all know, has very low transfer rate.. ang alam ko smart only has 384kbps download speed. and when its daytime, almost useless na sha, kase sobrang bagal na talaga nya.. and theres only one reason to that.. because its wireless connection, so there are so many factors to consider bout it..

anyway, also late last year, i upgraded my old globe connection from 384/512/768kbps (yan ang naging speed ng connection ko from 3-4years kase ina-upgrade daw nila yan automatically) to 2mbps. kase nagkaroon sila ng bagong offer.. so i grabbed it.. and it was pretty fast.. i mean, i have a computer shop, before if there are players playing, and someone would just open friendster, worst if youtube, you would recieve all the complaints that you can get, from lag, to bagal daw pc! lol.. but now, even if 3 pa yung sabay sabay na me youtube, theres no problem..

pero again lately, its kinda going slow again.. kase nag open sila ng mga bagong cabinet/port sa neighboring town.. so i was planning on upgrading my connection from 2 to 4mbps before the year ends.. i was only going to add bout 500 pesos for it, new offer again..

remind ko lang kayo guys, dont expect too much from wireless connections, well aside from sky i think(havent tried it, since theres no offer here in our place).. my smart that i mentioned above, i had it cut off last month, kase almost useless na sha cuz for real, its very slow.. and that globe visibility(i think that was it was called) they will only be good for instant messenger or sites that do not have streaming videos and audios..

they will only be good when you’re using it where the signal is not blocked by a big gumamela tree or something, or when you’re near a cellsite, probably then your connection will be good..

so if you can, as much as possible try to get a wired connection, and consider it na if you think that your provider is older than you, i mean yung mga telephone wires nila sa labas ng bahay nyo e mas matagal pa sayo, think twice and try for other option.. and if there is none, ask them first if you would be connected to the said wires, kase its also a factor four your connection.. an open wire may cause some data to be lost thus resulting to slow connection.. so think about it..

anyway, ang offer daw ng globe if your connection is bundled with a landline, globelines to globelines call from anywhere in the philippines would just be a local call.. comfirm nyo na lang..

thats all for now.. hope i could be of help even just for a little..

    happy browsing! =D

  22. JamesAMP July 29, 2009 09:08 pm

[mahal T_T])

    sana me makabasa nito…
” wala bang unlimited browsingfor 5 days.. Php100 for 5 day..?”

just a thought… sanae me masmumura pang promo sa grps browsing…

  24. w_chime August 1, 2009 02:20 pm

I sold my globe tattoo broadband, freakin slooow, and tot hink I am from boni, s stone’s thorw away from the globe hq… tried talking to their customer service to inquire, took me forever to connect and another eternity to talk to the correct person before vbeing told to dial again and be connected to another work unit…. am i glad i disposed it.

  25. reyjie August 12, 2009 05:06 pm

there’s a lot of possibilities to look for when cheking sped connection, mahina talaga pag p4 ang pc mo.kahit 1mbps kapa compared to dual core and 1 mbps then ang connection and nag mamater then yung oras….mga 4pm-9pm…bumababa ang connection dahil sa subrang dami ang gumagamit ng connection..halimbawa lng kung ikaw nasa internet cafe and ikaw lng ang costumer..talaga mabilis ang connection dahil ikaw lng gumagamit eh!!!!!!!

  26. Silvino Presto Jr August 15, 2009 03:42 pm

For DSL, I applied for Plan 2Mbps but they installed 1Mbps without informing us.

  30. gabe September 20, 2009 12:41 pm

ang smart bro bulok, wala pang 3 months may sira na un unit, brought it to smart business center in sm centerpoint, they cant repair it, referred me to greenhills, imagine the hassel their doing to us subscribers, marunong lang sila magbenta pero d nila tayo inaalagaan as customers. im using pldtdsl, well i can say it sucks to, upon checking the speedtest, the speed seldom reaches the plan that we are paying, usually at the wee hours in the morning lang mabilis, pagnite time bagal bagal.Well all i can say the problem with these telecom companies referring to broadbands either smart, globe, pldt and sun, they keep on getting clients, but they dont upgrade their system or add new sites, new lines, that’s why were having these kinds of troubles, over saturated na un lines, kaya bagal bagal ng speed, these companies earning billions of pesos annually, they dont even care to improve their quality, they are saying they are, if they did why do we still experience these problems? and yet we paying them, so in other words, we dont get the quality we are paying, pero what can we do, subscriber lang tayo, wala tayong choice, if we have, sila lang, so we have to bear with it, para silang mga pulitiko puro pangako!

  31. martin October 26, 2009 12:08 am

  35. Rachelle November 13, 2009 10:52 am

i got worse… my download speed is 105kbps and im paying for 2mbps… it sucks… and everytime i call them, all they say is that “they are doing some network blah blah blah nationwide”… and they have been saying that for almost a year now… i am disconnecting my globe line and will try skycable internet…

  36. gene November 15, 2009 01:40 pm

    Nov. 15, 2009

  37. deanDIGO1993 November 24, 2009 06:01 pm

yep. i agree w/ the smartBRO. i’m a smartBRO subscriber, and their connection is good. i mean great. wag nga lang umulan ng malakas. hehe!

  39. Yurs Truly December 8, 2009 03:39 pm

After reading alot of different sites about Globe,Smart,PLDT,SunBroadband, etc etc. my one and only conclusions is the PHILIPPINE INTERNET INDUSTRIES ARE MEDIOCRE AT BEST!

Btw, I tried a few services of them in this past 3yrs. from SmartBro to GlobeBroadband and other fixed/wireless net also.

eto lang masasabi ko, all pinoy internet users should be familiar of 80/80 rules sa internet speed. example, if they published/claimed a 2.0mbps speed, we expect a constant 1.6mbps speed (80% of 2.0) at 80% of the time… hence the 80/80 rules.. the rest of 10% should be on the upper range and the 10% just “near” below of 80%..it can’t be at 50kbs, 100kbs, 200kbs, or even 500kbs majority of the time if you subscribed at 2.0mbps.. LOLS…

this 80/80 Quality of Service are the norm de facto of other countries .. these big 3 companies knows this 80/80 rules but just turning a blind eyes and giving us poor performance here in pinas!

    hope this help…
    Bong2
    hope this help…

  40. DarkNet December 9, 2009 05:48 pm

to TS or should i say blogger…dont conclude Globe Broadband as the winner in one aspect alone…considering the speed against MSF..the globe is no doubt the winner but is that all about that on choosing your internet connection?

im an online gamer…and one thing you have to be aware of is the stability of your connection..and thats what i get from smart bro based on my personal experience. The lock in period of their service is only 12mos.. but im still using it and never tried to test other ISP.. i never regret choosing smart bro as my ISP…in 3 years using is. i got only around 5 times of disconnection… not like in our office for 3 years ive experiencing 5-10x A DAY! and thats really something to be pissed of…and im glad they upgraded their plan 999 which is from 384kbps to 512kbps, and there are some threads that some of the subscriber were 768kbps instead of 512..so lucky in one of those..

so if you go for bandwidth vs the price go for Globe (but ready to be get pissed with the disconnection)

or go for smart.. about 25% lower bandwidth than globe but the stability of the connection you will get is more than a promising one..

    ciao^^

    anyway heres my conclusion about

  41. Daniel Mortiz December 19, 2009 06:52 pm

Try testing it against the server in Paranuaque at Speedtes, you’ll get a more faster and accurate result. I did a test for the Sun Broadband plug it at http://chopsueyrice.blogspot.com/ The fastest is 2.20 mbps

Im a former smartbro subscriber my plan is 384Kbps 999Php monthly in fairness I got an ave. of 200Kbps. good enough kc malapit lang kami sa tower nila, But when I switch to globebroadband with 1Mbsp plan 995Php monthly Im satisfied about 800~1Mbsp considering labas ang area ko sa 2kilometer radius ng tower nila. Hopefully ma maitain nila Good service.

the 2 things pldt is good at:

    1. billing ( very punctual)
    2. prompt disconnection if you fail to pay in time (understandable; but billing us for a whole month’s charge when we were only connected for 1 week??? system default daw. system default my a.s!!!!)
