Skype 4.0 Now Available!
Great news for Skype users – today, Skype launched version 4.0 for Windows, the VoIP company’s most significant new release in their five-year history. Now, you can have full-screen video calls, crystal clear call quality, free voice and video calls to other Skypers, SMS, instant messaging, and calls to mobile phones and landlines all over the world at very low rates.
Because of a new built-in bandwidth manager, video calling and voice calls will now be clearer and easier to start, even if you have a low-bandwidth connection. It’s still recommended that you have a connection speed of 400 kb/s or higher and a Skype certified high quality webcam, because Skype can deliver up to 30 frames per second of high quality video. A new audio codec will also achieve wideband audio quality using far less bandwidth than in older versions. For those using a compatible headset and a fast broadband connection, crystal clear voice calls will have richer and warmer sounds thanks to a super wideband audio.
Finally, it will be easier to track conversations and switch from different communication methods multiple conversations because of a new Conversations Tab. With this tab, you can easily change from free voice and video calls to SMS, instant messaging, or calls to landlines and mobile phones. Users can also choose between two different views – the compact view, which allows you to place conversations into separate windows, or the default view, which keeps everything in a single window.
