Panasonic Blu-Ray Players to Have Skype in 2011

Blu-Ray players do far more than just play movies; they often come bundled with extras, except these are often features you never really need. Today, however, Panasonic just announced that their 2011 VIERA CAST-enabled Blu-Ray players will be offering free Skype voice and video calling, a new feature that could completely change the game. VoIP calls are normally done on computers and laptops, but the screen size often limits the number of participants. With Skype calls done in the living room, making family video calls to loved ones is made easier and more memorable.
To use the Skype feature, you’ll need an HDTV and any webcam (preferably HD). No need to hook up a PC to the TV – all you need is an internet connection at home. While most of the Panasonic Blu-Ray players will have built-in WiFi, others will need a wireless adaptor. I’m really looking forward to see how this works!
Besides Skype, the VIERA CAST Blu-Ray players will also offer Amazon VOD and Netflix.
