iRiver Wave Home Touchscreen VoIP Phone

This beautiful gadget that looks like an expensive bedside clock of a modern millionaire is actually iRiver’s Wave Home touchscreen VoIP phone. Introduced at CES 2009 in a mixture of Korean and English, it has a 7-inch LCD touchscreen with a wireless handset tucked neatly in the back for when you don’t want to use the speakerphone. Featuring excellent video quality and a simple user interface, iRiver plans to retail this sleek VoIP phone for under $400. The Wave Home isn’t available in the market yet be cause iRiver is still negotiating with VoIP carriers. I suppose the biggest downside to the Wave Home is that it doesn’t run with Skype or similar free VoIP services. This gadget would be a bigger hit among consumers if they made it Skype-friendly, and I can foresee a lot of politicking going on if iRiver does a big VoIP partnership. And that would be a shame, because the Wave Home is such a beautiful toy.
