Hackers to Target VoIP Users
VoIP users, be careful. According to a VoIP equipment maker, hackers are starting to target VoIP accounts to acquire private information like usernames and passwords. VoIP accounts are being sold online for $17 – higher than stolen credit card numbers at only $12. The information lets the hackers use the service for free and is a problem for people who use public or unsecured WiFi networks – especially since 90% of VoIP carriers don’t provide secure service. It would cost providers around $4 or $5 per subscriber to add more security to their accounts. Skype, however, offers total encryption; no matter what kind of wireless connection you’re on, it’s impossible for a hacker to get ahold of anyone’s username or password.
