Did you know that Gizmo5, the Skype-like VoIP service, provides convenient, straight-up dialing through your Google Voice number? If you have a Gizmo account, you can make US and international calls through your Google Voice number by going to your account settings and entering your Google Voice email address and password. Then you can log onto the desktop client or the mobile site using your 1+10-digit Gizmo 5 number and password. Making outgoing calls in this manner won’t use up any of your Gizmo credit – the outgoing call gets automatically routed through your Google Voice number.

Currently, Google Voice is still in its beta phase, meaning you can only use it upon invitation. Gizmo5, on the other hand, is free to sign up and use.

Israel-based mobile call and chat provider Fring just received $13M of funding from its investors. The $13M was actually part of their third round of financing and while nobody knows the exact amount Fring received from investors since their inception in 2006, people are guessing it’s at around $23M now.

This is great news for Fring users because it means that Fring will be made compatible to more environments like the Android, introduce more new features, support more web-based community services, and make a lot of usability improvements.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with what Fring does, it s is a mobile VoIP service that allows free mobile calling among Fring users. Fring is available through WiFi, 3G, EDGE, or GPRS on the iPhone, Windows Mobile, and Symbian. Download Fring for your mobile phone by visiting Fring.Com.

AOL just relaunched their VoIP service and expanded it to include great long-distance rates to over 200 countries around the world. AIM Call Out allows users to make long-distance calls from their mobile phone, landline, or through AIM. It’s incredibly easy to use – all you have to do is register for AIM Call Out, then download and install the latest version of AIM. If you already have AIM 6.8, bring up the Call Center by clicking on the phone icon. This is where you will be making your calls. Choose the country you’ll be calling up from the drop-down menu, type in the phone number, then click dial.

What’s great about AIM Call Out is that they don’t charge connection fees to users and every call is rounded up to the last minute. You get charged based on the rates of the city or mobile company of the person you’re calling. The AIM Call Out Dashboard shows the exact rate you’ll be charged when you enter you friend’s number to place a call. Click here for a complete list of of long-distance rates.

The thing about Twitter is that when conversations generate lots of replies and get exciting, sometimes you feel this need to take it to another venue to really get the discussion going. Stuart Henshall and David Beckemeyer realized this and came up with a way to integrate voice calls with Twitter in an interesting new service called Phweet. If you’ve got a Smart Phone, you’ll find that it’s incredibly easy to use. The moment you go to the Phweet website, you are asked to enter your Twitter username and password. Then type the username of the person you’d like to call. Phweet then creates a URL for the voice call, then sends a private message to the person with the link to join the call. You also have the option to choose between calling on the browser with a SIP URL or through services like Gizmo, Free World Dialup, or PhoneGnome – for free. There’s no way to make calls to a regular phone yet and while I won’t be surprised if they develop that in the future, I’m not gonna expect that part of the service to cost nothing.

Phweet is available to everyone for testing purposes so I suggest that you check it out and give them your feedback. The official launch is in 100 days and as the date draws nearer, I’m sure they’ll be making the service more feature rich and interactive.
