Rack-Soft launched today 4PSA VoipNow 1.6, the latest release of the hosted IP PBX software server solution for service providers, call
centers, and enterprises. Designed to better address business needs, this version is shipped with more than 20 new features, like SIP presence support, IAX channels interconnectivity, Paging, Intercom, outgoing call screening, advanced groups support, and key improvements in reporting and billing modules.

SIP Presence allows extensions to monitor the status of phone terminals. SIP phones can be configured to display on multi color LED buttons what other extensions in the company are doing. “As 4PSA VoipNow is a multitenant PBX solution, presence messages are isolated between clients. Furthermore, clients can restrict presence to groups allowing some persons to monitor only certain extensions, a very useful feature for enterprise deployments. With presence activated, the receptionist will know before transferring a call that the
manager is on the phone.” said Bogdan Carstoiu , 4PSA VoipNow architect. 4PSA VoipNow 1.6 IAX support helps companies improve connection with providers, as there are many carriers offering IAX signaling. At the logic level, the IAX channels implementation replicates all the features present on SIP channels, like call routing, failover, and call concurrency control.

The phone system administrator can easily control the persons who can use the service. The large number of improvements operated to IVR, Queue, callbacks, and calling cards were mostly based on feedback gathered from customers and community in the second part of 2007. Most of them are targeted to improve the end user’s experience.

4PSA VoipNow comes in two editions. The Express edition is free for community and is limited to 10 phone extensions, while the Professional edition comes with advanced features, high availability, more extensions, and free technical support. Prices for the commercial version start from 299USD.

I just got word that the next VoIPCON 2007 Philippines convention will be held sometime on March 9-11, 2007 at the SM Megamall Megatrade Hall. This will be an even better event as the VoIPCon Philippines Event Management Company will bring in more exhibitors to show off their various services. Attendees to this convention can benefit from discussions on VoIP-related topics ranging from VOIP regulations, revenue implications to telecom companies as well as to independent service providers. Benefits of large-scale VOIP deployment will also be relayed to residential users.

At the First International VOIP Con 2006 in World Trade Center, I got to meet VoIP provders like Bayantel’s Sky Internet VOIP and Globe’s Globequest Webphone.

Let me start with the Globe’s WebPhone. They are the first to provide pre-paid card. The Globe1 cards are available from Globelines Payments and Services Centers, and from selected WIZ Hotspots. Globe1 is available in P100 and P300 cards. There is no monthly fee and you are only charged for the calls you make. International calls in selected countries like Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and USA.) are 4.50 pesos a minute.

Now the Sky Internet VOIP services. You will have to pay an installation fee of P2,999 (DISCOUNTED installation fee of P1,999 for Sky DSL subscribers!). Their most affordable plan is P 499 for 100 minutes for free international calls and $ 0.10/min for top countries thereafter. It assumes that you have a Broadband Internet connection. Recommended speed is 256 kbps and above to be able to do any Internet activity such as surfing/emailing/gaming/downloading and use VoIP at the same time. The sad thing is that only 3% of the internet population uses broadband or roughly 130,000 subscribers.
