Skype Collaborates with the Asterisk Network

Big news from Astricon 2008! Skype and Asterisk systems are going to do a collaboration on their VoIP services for easy integration between phone systems based on the two networks. With the Skype for Asterisk hookup, users will be able to access most of Skype’s features as well as the capabilities of Asterisk. For instance, the beta version of Skype For Asterisk will allow users to receive, make, and transfer Skype voice calls from within the Asterisk system using their existing hardware, manage Skype calls using Asterisk apps like voice conferencing, call routing, voicemail, and phone menus.
Although carriers can take advantage of this collaboration, the real target market of Skype For Asterisk are small businesses. For Skype users, this collaboration means lower call costs and more flexibility for businesses and consumers worldwide. Skype users should be able to call business offices using native Skype for free because once the Skype For Asterisk module is installed, users can make unlimited calls to Skype names for free. Business packages allowing premium support and services that include text and voice chat will be provided for. And if companies can integrate Skype click-to-call features on their websites, it could mean a great advantage for their business.
