Skype Mobile, Beta Version

Exciting news from Skype! A beta version of Skype for java-enabled mobile phones is now available for you to download and use. Skype mobile (beta) is a “thin” client that allows you to use Skype’s features on your mobile phone - as long as it’s Java-enabled. Skype mobile beta allows you to make SkypeOut and Skype-to-Skype calls, receive SkypeIn calls (people who call your online number), receive calls from Skype contacts, send and receive IMs, check if your contacts are online, and adjust your account settings.
Before you get too excited, here are a couple of things you need to remember. First of all, Skype mobile is only a beta version, which means the full feature set won’t be available everywhere. So far, only the UK, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Denmark, Estonia and Brazil (Rio de Janeiro) can use the above features. Those in other countries can only access data-only features (signing in, checking who’s online, starting chats) and receive SkypeIn calls; SkypeOut calls aren’t available yet. And because it’s still in beta mode, there are bound to be lots of bugs in the application.
Also, while Skype to Skype calls are still free, you might be charged some fees because you still have to go through your mobile carrier to use Skype on your phone.
