My Review of Globelines Broadband Budget Bundles, Smart Bro and PLDT MyDSL
Read my Current review as of May 2008
Six months ago, I subscribed to three (3) Philippine Internet Service Provider (ISP) namely, Globelines Broadband Budget Bundles, Smart Bro and PLDT MyDSL. At the time of installation, I believed it was not yet time to make a review. Give it six months, I said to myself. Since it’s been six months already, I think it is high time I make a review of my 3 ISP’s.
Take note, I am a paying subscriber located in Pasig City near the Marikina, Cainta, Quezon City area. I don’t believe in getting free subscription because I cannot demand the service I paid for. right? Anyway, here goes:
1. Smart Bro- 999 pesos for a 384 kpbs connection- installed March 2, 2007
This internet connection is located at Lauren’s computer. Installation was pretty fast with only 1 day waiting period. During the first four months, there were barely any connection problems. Slow speed started to occur sometime June. Calling the Smart Support (6727277) is torture. It can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour before you can get to talk to someone. They make you do all that PING, bandwidth testing on your PC before they call in the tech support to go to your place. I keep telling them that they have congested their cell sites. They replace the antenna thinking it’s defective. I complain it is a congestion problem. After a replacement of the antenna, the slow connection continued on especially starting at 6:00 PM .
SMART BRO’s dismal performance turned me into a “nasty” person and sometime August, I threatened to report them to the National Telecommunications Commission for non-existence of an internet connection. This was after waiting again on the phone for an hour. Fortunately, the nice technicians came. They are amazed that I am given support a day after my phone call. I kept thinking the SMART BRO tech people must have googled my name and found out I was a blogger. They changed my base station to a less congested base. I was optimistic this would work but no….slow connection still happened. I was more emphatic this time “If you can’t give me a stable internet connection, then just release me from the locked-in period”. In fairness to the tech guys, they did a great job the third time around. Since August, SMART Bro connection has been very stable.
Rating- 5/10 only because calling SMART BRO Support is torture and they tend to congest their base station. Though Support takes time to answer your calls, they give feedback in your cellphone regarding the progress of your report.
2. Globelines Broadband Budget Bundles - 1 MBPS with landline. The Globelines Broadband budget bundle costs only 1450 pesos a month (now at 1,250 pesos only)
The Globe Broadband connection is attached to Marielle’s desktop. The thing I like most about Globe Broadband is that their modem comes with a wi-fi router. My macbook uses this wi-fi connection. During the first few months, calling Globelines Support at 9198888 took at least 45 minutes. For the past 5 months now, I didn’t have to wait too long for tech support to pick up my queue. I have encountered 2 connection problems with them so far. The first one lasted for one day with no internet connection. My second problem with them was dropped wi-fi connection. I still get dropped wi-fi connection problems but I can live with it since it goes back up in less than a minute.
Rating 8/10 because their connection has been reliable. It could be better if wi-fi connection is more stable.
3. PLDT MyDSL 784 kbps and landline bundle at 1520 pesos a month.
Of all the 3 ISP’s, PLDT was the last to install. PLDT has dropped connections every 15 minutes or so. I called their Tech Support (171) and it took them a week to get a technician to our house. It was the landline tech personnel who made sure that there were no problems in the landline connection. After they assured me that all the lines were working well, I thought my DSL connection would be smooth. I was wrong. The dropped connections continue to this day. Upon calling PLDT support, they keep saying that they are working on it. I give up calling on them. Maybe because I have another reliable ISP to run to when their connection is not working.
Rating 4/10 because of the lousy PLDT myDSL connection. Support keeps saying they are working on it without giving feedback.
My suggestions to the Philippine Internet Service Providers:
1. Don’t assume that we don’t know anything about computers. Don’t say we have a virus when you don’t even know if I am using a mac or a PC. Just because I am a woman doesn’t mean I am clueless about computers. Don’t assume we are ignorant.
2. If you are going to have long queues in your Tech Support lines, consider using the SMS system that Destiny Cable (my old provider) uses. When there is a tech issue, I would just send a text message with my landline to their support. When they are free, they return my call. Works like a charm.
3. Stop using the byline line faster than dial-up when you promote your broadband ads . You can’t fool someone like me who has been using cable internet for 8 years now. Yes, you can fool the dialup users but how long can you fool them?
4. Stop congesting or overcrowding your servers. There is huge potential and an untapped market for internet users . You can still earn profitably as demand rises.
To all those who have asked me which is the better internet service provider among the 3, I can say it is Globelines Broadband because of the stable internet connectivity and prompt customer support. But remember, not all ISP’s are the same in any locality. I heard Globe Broaband is really bad in Cavite.
My ISP recommendation is based on my location which is Pasig City near Marikina, Cainta, Quezon City area.
In conclusion, in terms of the best to worst ISP based on stable internet connection and customer service reliablity, here it is:
1. Globe Broadband (best)
2. Smart Bro
3. PLDT MyDSL (Worst)
Hope you find the best internet service provider in your area.

I’ve been a MyDestiny cable internet subscriber for three years now. I’d probably give them a 9/10. Rarely have i had any connection problems. And their customer service text hotline is really fast. At least if i ever had to wait, i wasn’t stuck on the phone. Needless to say (but I say it anyway). cable internet is the fastest web connection, kaya when I use other PCs with DSL connection, I get really impatient with the speed. hehe
@chateau- I was a destiny subscriber for 8 years . Sob . but I had to move here in Pasig where Destiny cable internet is not available. Yes their service and text hotline is fast.
Hi Noemi, Thanks! Your review is very helpful. I’m currently looking for the best ISP to subscribe into. There are contradicting reviews on myDestiny internet service that is why I’m confused.
I live in the Paranaque / Pasay border area, have you heard any feedback on myDestiny internet service in that area?
And how much was the fee on myInternet before?
Unfortunately http://www.mydestiny.net is down so I can’t get more information from there
i linked this post to my blog, i found it very enlightening

I have been having major problems with Globe line Broadband for over 4 months, and now with the 5th Globe tech visits at my home! Last week was the last tech at my house who told me that Globe reduced the DSL speeds in half. Before the reduction my true speed was around 100 on down-loads and my service plan was the 768 speed. You would loss your connection about 6 times a day.
Also I live in Davao City which is a few worlds apart from Metro-Manila–so the problem may be a local problem, meaning any place outside of Metro Manila. After all Davao City is the 3rd largest city in the Philippines with over a few million people, but that means nothing to Globe or the Philippine Government.
Globe over the past several months had reduced speeds by over 50% and are now limiting your access to USA sites–they are redirecting your search to Philippine or approved Philippine sites. Also now their 768K service plan runs at only 56K for the past 3 months –what a joke! Censor, Censor and censor! They must be working with Fools and censoring your views–so maybe they are trying to stop price compares so high goods prices in the Philippine will not look so bad!.
Do not try to watch video news above 56K since it will stop many
times or no picture. At 56K it stops only a few times when it works with a bad video picture! Also down loading data, is mostly at 7kb, so a 25mb file will take you about 4 hours if the line stays up—but mostly the line goes down before the file is down-loaded.

With the Globe landline can you call local numbers for free like you can with a regular telephone? I was told that you can only call other Globe subscribers for free and even local numbers get charged as long distance.
Im a smartbro subscriber. Unfortunately, for 1 whole year my computer never reached their 384 kbps… Only 150 kbps.
Now that PLDT is terminating Teletipid/Telesulit prepaid landline this coming November 1, I guess I need to change my ISP provider with the one that offers an Internet bundled with a phone line. Isn’t it a good idea?
Thanks for the review…. Im from Pasig too.

hi
i had globelines broadband 512kbps for a year and it’s really crap. i’ve had problems almost everyday. i get disconnected almost every 5 minutes for an hour before the connection stabilizes. i even experienced a week up to 3 weeks without connection. i called them but they kept repeating same sh*t. i can’t switch to other ISPs coz it’s the only ISP available here.
location : san fernando cebu
speed : 512kbps
rating : 0.5/10
after being fed up with this f***ed up connection, i decided to switch to 1mbps. now, this are brilliant, they give me sometimes 50kbps instead of 1mbps for a whole damn week, wtf? at 512 my dl speed was 75kbps at max. so i thought i would have 150kbps with a 1mbps connection. all i can get is 130kbps dl speed though. so i get a dial up speed connection most of the time with like 5kbps dl speed instead of 150kbps at 1mbps connection. damn it. it’s really hard to talk to techs coz all they do is let you listen to jose marie chan. grrrr. hopefully pldt will expand and reach our place. i’d like to give it a try.
rating : .0001/10
still arguing with the tech people as they wont believe it’s congestion problems or anything.
hopefully they’ll do some upgrading with their hardware. i think they can’t handle the ever increasing demand for broadband connection with their current state.
why do i get high ping latency in online games between 9am~2am early morning? its been 3 weeks now and i cant fix it. globelines wont send a tech. all they do is tell me to observe. errrr how can i play games if the only time it gets normal is when im sleeping. no matter how many times i restart the modem, the ping just wont go down. it causes too much delay to the games i play. befor this problem i used to get only 30~80ms. now i get 200~500ms >_
@Jenny- I don’t really know the Paranaque area. I’ve heard PLDT is the more
reliable provider
@Frank- just be persistent. Document and try to send your feedback to the NTC.
@phil- as far as I know, local calls are free here in Manila.
@elvic- that is normal speed for smart bro. They promised up to 384 kbps anyway.
so saying you have 150 kbps is being safe to them
@euman- keep bugging them. Be persistent. Document everything and report to NTC.
im a smartbro subscriber for over a year now. so far ive never encountered any serious problem with them. Yes sometimes i’ve encountered no internet connection but that only happens after strong typhoons wherein they have to repair their base station. After that back to normal again.. for me ill give smartbro 8/10…
How does Globelines fare in the Muntinlupa Area? Lately Smart BROken gets disconnected (Request Time Out when you Ping) about 3 times then it will ping normally. A few times it will Request Time Out for about 10+ consecutive times for about 5+ minutes. Very Unstable ever since October.
Anyone have any feedback regarding Globelines Broadband in Leyte?
I’m fed up with Bayantel and the only other available ISP here is Globelines.
Do you think it would be wise to transfer?
[...] Over six months ago, I wrote about my three new Broadband internet providers (Globelines Broadband, Smart Bro and PLDT Mydsl) for which I pay around 4,000 pesos a month. Am I happy with my three internet providers? I wrote a brief review about these providers a month ago. The ratings I gave those three providers are as follows: [...]
hello,
i like your blog. lately i had been reading blogs about ISPs, which ones are better and economical. Blogs and research led me to smart bro and globe packages. i first applied with Globe but they said that my house will cause overlaying of wires and malamang extra charges. lousy globe guys gusto ko pa namn sana ng package nila. i now landed with smart bro and just got it installed. so far connection is around 120 kbps, 2x ng dial up for a cost of Php999. sad but no choice. i really would like to get in touch with you coz u have diff ISPs and i know you could help me with my future questions. you can email me at rinoa2babes@yahoo.com. tinx hope to hear from u soon
Connection for globebroadband here in bacoor cavite is really very, very bad. wish i have a choice.
Imus Cavite Globe Broadband Plan 1295 – 1Mbps
current connection:
Download Speed: 737 kbps (92.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 351 kbps (43.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
…not bad
[...] Most of you have probably read my Review of Globelines Broadband, Smart Bro and PLDT Mydsl. This time I am presenting the speedtest of my ISPs. Tests were taken at 9:30 AM on December 13. Usually mornings have slower connections, hence I tested it at this time. I used speedtest.net. Remember, I am based in Pasig City, close to Quezon city and Marikina to have an idea of my location. [...]
I had two past ISP’s : Bayantel and Globelines
I am in QC area
Bayantel : This is a dismal, sluggish BUT RELIABLE ISP… Never had a disconnection or if there was, I cannot really remember because it was just for a short period of time. I give it a passing mark!!!
Globelines: I hate this ISP. Well, at least here in Congressional QC. I had a faster connection, I must hand it to the Globe and the Tech Support answers your call in about 5 minutes. BUT Hell, the connection was rarely there!!!! One day a week lang ang connection ko. For most days, I was without any internet…. It would’ve been the best deal in town but they fail in giving real service… So, I terminated the contract in just one month. How did they allow me, I have no idea…. maybe my letter request was compelling enough….
Now, I’m with Smart: I am afraid this is gonna be a slow one!!!So wait til you hear from me guyz!!!
Good luck!!!
Globelines Broadband is a scam!!! Letting us customers experience their 7-day trial period of real broadband speed then they will tie us in their 1yr bond then after that the HELL ON EARTH of internet begins.
I am experiencing problems with globelines broadband… I subscribed to their 512kbps wireless broadband package with wireless phone (PHP1295/mo.)… they gave me 7 days trial period and within that trial period I was amazed with the speed… pumapalo from 700+ kbps to 1+ mb… kaya pina-activate ko kaagad. Pero eto na ang kalbaryo… right after the 7-day trial period nagsimula nang maging intermitent ang connection speed nila either super bagal (I even got 5bps or lower!!!) o totally walang connection. Lagi ako nagrereklamo sa CS nila pero wala naman sila ginawa kundi palitan yung modem na wala naman nagbago ganon pa din naman problema. My work is related to IT and I know that there is no problem at my side (hardware, softwares, cabling, etc…). Kakainis na talaga ang service ng globelines… feeling ko naloko lang ako kase nakatali ako ngayon sa kanila for 1yr dahil sa 1yr bond na kasama sa package.
I am currently a subscriber of Globe DSL (384KBps). My location is Pasig. I WAS a happy subscriber on my first 6 months. The connection was fast and stable. Sometimes my bandwidth is at 500. But things changed… i now have an intermittent connection (gazillion times a day) since mid dec of last year and up to now it is not yet resolved. Doing follow up almost every other day since no technician came to our house to check my connection.
Please help me.. who should i contact to report this issue with the bad connection and service.
Hello! I can’t help but leave a comment on this topic. Just so I can bring up my thoughts and release my emotions on PLDT’s very poor service. I would really really agree with you by saying that PLDT MyDSL is worst in terms of their service. I can attest to that. My family used it for more than a year but decided to have it cut sometime last year because of their really really poor service. I was really dismayed with them. Our plan was the P1995 with 512 kbps then. First it went so well but as time passed by their service began to be nasty to the point that we didn’t have connection at all. This is the catch…we were still billed P1995 every month huh! Everytime we call to report the connection problem it took us 10 years to get connected with one of their CSRs. And worst, once connected they would just say they would forward your complaint to their tech team and nothing follows. Nobody bothered to do a visit to check the equipments, which I also requested for a replacement. But to no avail. I ended up buying my own. I also asked about the speed because the new customers with the same plan (P1995) will be able to get a speed of I think 1+mbps as compared to what the old users like me are getting (512kbps). They just said that they’re in the process of aligning the speed for all subscribers nationwide in a 5-year timeframe. Duh! But being the good citizens that we are, we still paid those monthly bills and gave ourselves the hope that they would do something about it. Unfortunately there was no improvement. After several months of paying but with no connection we came to a saturation point that that was it. We requested to have it cut. We asked for some rebates for those months that we weren’t able to get what we’re supposed to have. And all they gave us is P99. Wow… Thanks a lot!!!
I just hope that PLDT and all providers likewise will be fair enough to their customers. Give the customers what is due to them.
been using globe for 6mos now, i get a lot of network outages.. im on a 384kbps bundled with a land line.
rating: 5/10
reason why is, i like the idea of buddling their internet with a land line, because we use our land line regularly. internet is bad, gets disconnected all the time, intermittent, High ping Latency 500+. after the contract, will be switching to cable internet, well.. im looking at Destiny or zpdee cable internet..
Hi I was researching for GlobeLines reviews and I end up on this page…
for the reason for this was lately our PLDT DSL 1995 pesos became intermittent ever since they transfered the port from the old one AT&T i think or what ever that is Alcatel I don’t care but what i do mind is that the internet connection has been cutting off for 3 weeks now.. and to top it all… timing on the weekend pa! when you really needed the internet because you are not in the office… it will start around Friday night up to God’s knows when the Technician gets in to your house that is Monday afternoon… then same thing will happen when the Friday night comes…
since we are 2 years customer of PLDT DSL and our lock period has expired we are really looking forward for new provider since this problems has not been totally solved.
I really don’t know what other provider that is reliable here in Obrero, Davao City
Can you help me guys?
hey guys…
i subscribed to smart bro plan 999 just a month ago so far so good i had experienced good internet connection with 394kbps speed i got 264kbps but its rare thats because i think of peak hours from 7pm to 10 pm but everything is fine and most of the time i got the speed that i want for(max speed)…i hope the speed wont change til my locked up period will expire.
tnk u bro…..
Hi guys, I think I need help badly.. advise perhaps. (?)
I’ve been using my N70 to serve as a modem for my laptop for months now, but my hub went crazy and I need to try these “faster than dial-up” stuff. I am from LB, Laguna and I went to PLDT but I think it’s too heavy in the pocket for they have this PLDT + landline 1 mbps but you need to avail a modem (P1,200) and 1,700/month with 2 months advance.. That’s about P4,600 for availing their service. (ouch!) then, there’s this cable connection here, offering 310 kbps for 880 (no installation fee whatsoever plus the modem is free).
Hence, one of the rooms in the apartment has SmartBro but their supposedly 384 kpbs/999 a month has been screwing giving them a range of 100-150 kbps (not so exact about this though) almost all of the time. Geez, am really confused with this. I’m thinking of risking with the CCTV kwiknet connection but am quite hesitant with all the comments i’ve just scoured on this blog. Please advise me as I desperately need it.
As for Globelines, there appears to be no office here. (darn it!)
Thanks mucheeze..
I’m from Fairview, QC and I would just like to give my review (based on my experience) on Globe and Smart Bro services.
1. Smart Bro P999 Wireless Package — very stable, almost no disconnections experienced. Very reliable and stable speed at ~250 to 300 kbps.
2. Globelines Broadband P1995 2MB w/ landline package — absolutely pathetic! It has been 20 days now since they had me connected but I only had dial tone for 4-days. Internet is not stable…from a 2-day streak of ~1,500 kbps to about 3 days of up to ~45 kbps. A lot of drops in connection. Customer Service is the WORST of its kind!!! In the span of the 20 days in hell, I probably called in around 15 times to follow-up on my dial-tone and lousy internet speed. I practically know their spiel:
“I apologize for that sir…I’ll make an urgent/priority/personal (take your pick, they just pick from a bowl) follow-up on this. Paki monitor na lang po within 24 to 48 hours”
Every agent I talked to said the exact same spiel. So I told them na 384 hours ko nang minomonitor!! Not even a single technician visited me up to this point. I am having this service disconnected today and switching back to Smart Bro. 2MB Globe? No, thanks!
Joel
I totally agree with your review for PLDT. I have my share of nightmares … let me share the conversation i had with them..
here goes…
Hello!
I knew this is going to happen but because they said PLDT is worth a try , I applied. Look what’s happening now, it hasn’t even started all I’m getting now is poor customer service. In short , nothing but bad experiences with you. I paid the installation weeks ago and until now not even a single word from you . I know this is not your fault but please do extra mile for me. I don’t want to become another but unsatisfied customer writing negative feedbacks on every BLOG there is on the internet. I want to know the installation date ASAP.
Thank you ,
Norman

Hello!
I applied online few days ago but unfortunately until now i still haven’t received any update from you.
please let me know the status , ASAP. Thanks.
Norman
Oh well, been using SmartBro since ‘05.
The only rub I encountered was when Bagyong Milleño visited the Flips.
And Noemi is kinda right when she stated that Globe Broadband isn’t performing great here in Cavite. THANKS FOR THE FORUM!
i encountered the same congestion problems with Smartbro. What makes it worst is that nobody from my family knows computer much, I am an OFW by the way. Smartbro insisted that it was due to virus, sometimes due to tree blocking their signal, sometimes due systems maintenance they were doing, etc. etc.
I got fed so I requested it to be disconnected only to find out of the 12 months lock in period ruling. I waited for another 4 months to have disconnected. Then I applied for Globelines internet + phone. So far everything’s ok with globelines. Smartbro is now begging me to pay my one month bill…..
we have been using globe wireless and they suck!!! i’m from pasig too but i think our connection is with mandaluyong.
gud afternoon! i have pldt my dsl at my office it was connected on april 04,2008 but it has no dial tone…i really need a landline on my office so as soon as possible please connect it.how come my bill is running but i cant use my landline…it was located at sto domingo capas tarlac..
I have used two so far:
SmartBro — connection never really got up to 384 kbps. Mostly below 200. Intermittent. A little bit of wind and the connection is gone. If you have a storm or typhoon, forget it.
Globe Innove — i thought their wired connection would be much better than SmartBro’s wireless. I was terribly wrong. Disconnected every few minutes. We have to reset our connection everytime just to get back online. Even as I’m typing this I can see my connection is again gone. I hope I don’t lose this comment. Speed goes up to 200+ when it’s on. Their speed check tool says it’s 500+. Don’t believe it.
So far I have yet to find a good broadband provider in Las Pinas.
Well, i have been a loyal PLDT Mydsl subscriber for 2 years now, in the past i have been experiencing some sort of problems in my connection but my connection is real fast now. Im planning to switch to Smart Bro but im not sure if its really fast compared to PLDT Mydsl. My location is in Cebu.
Dont try to get SmartBro! If you will try to access the UI of the canopy that they provided, you will actually see that the uplink and downlink is set to 256kbps, sucks right?! they said that it is 7x faster than dial up, but guess what, try to make a speed check, you will find out that it is 2x faster than dial up…running about 100kbps! they tech support sucks same goes with with their customer support! after doing some powercycle and ipconfig/release and renew they will conclude to try to connect some other time!
Guys if you’re going to ask me, I may say that I am good wtih computers, DONT GET SMARTBROken!!!!
smartBro in elbi sucks so bad. the first two months were good then problems started cropping up. I was at the office so I had my girlfriend call up smartbro tech support to fix it. They told her to UPGRADE THE OPERATING SYSTEM. WTF. I had windows xp then. The problems never stopped until I had to move to Sta. Mesa. My lock in period wasn’t over so I just had them reinstall the antenna there. It’s been fine for 5 months now but I had my first problem yesterday morning when tech support said something about doing “technical upgrade”. BS. i now have slower speeds. I’m thinking about migrating to Globe.
I am using globelines broadband, and for me it’s worst connection!
I live in makati,in an exclusive condominium where globelines has exclusive contract.
Everytime I change room I experienced an unexplainable dropping out of my internet connection and it was every 15 minutes. So many times I called and asked to globelines to repair but nothing change! they said this time the server system was on going to repair but until now I dont have any answer!
globelines broadband is worst!
I have globe bb a imus and except for the occasional dc/slow down… i am satisfied with it. maybe other parts of cavite…
I’m using Bayantel DSL for almost a year now (I live in Quezon City). And so far, so good! They rarely have bad connections (except during super bad weather but service immediately resumes). I highly recommend it to those who are still looking for a reliable internet connection or those who have decided to shift from another ISP.
I availed of their bayanDSL + phone package. It’s P1,199 per month. This package includes:
- 384 kbps of DSL
- landline
For me, this package is ideal for basic home use. But there are other packages you can choose from if you want faster internet connection (http://www.bayandsl.com/resi/bundle.html).
I think their customer service is also noteworthy: you don’t have to wait very long when you call the customer hotline, they have money-back guarantee and they have 24-hour service guarantee for both phone and DSL.
Wow nice review. Anyway, I am subscribed with smart bro for 6 months now and I may say I am currently satisfied. Not with the speed but with the stable. I live at meycauayan, bulacan and I never had any disconnection unless it’s very windy. But I was thinking of changing to globe broadband cause I just want a cable subscription. Thanks also to other guys and now I’ve sent an application to myDestiny hope they have a junction here
. And to all guys there who ask by there technicians to upgrade their operating system, DON’T DO IT! Even a windows 98 could have connection. I don’t know about windows 95. But anyway, windows users, try to switch to Linux. There are a lot of linux os out there. I would recommend linux mint! I’ve been using this for 1 year and I’ve never experienced any viruses or spyware. And the good part is, it’s 100% free. Try searching the web. I have not encountered any hardware conflict.
Nope. The different ISP DSL performance/reliability is still depends on where your location is (don’t ask me how’s that possible, but its true)..
I am from Fairview Q.C, last year I subscribed in Bayantel DSL(384kbps) and My connection is reliable but slow (no discons but speed drops from your actual subscription). After a year bond from them I switch to Globeliness which is much cheaper and much faster(1mbps). But, this is the most worst ISP I know! (although I haven’t subscribed in PLDT yet but we have in Novaliches with My family and there are no problems regarding with the reliability of the connection).
Globelines drops connection every 2-3 hours lasting for 30-60 mins, Tech Support has no o little “know how” technical ideas of the actual problem we has. And best of all, our landline phone… yes the phone which invented century ago is also DOWN!!! Imagine that, not just your Internet connection but also your phone! We had a phone in our house since my birth 27 years ago and I don’t remember having a problem with our phone. Anyway, just wanna share this story of mine. I decided not to pay globelines this coming month(I don’t care with the bonds they had because I still have 7 months from them) and switch to PLDT.
nice blog…i’m one of those unhappy subscribers of digitel1 here in bulacan. the unstable speed keeps me wondering what’s going on with my connection. is it really true that these ISPs are throttling our lines to cope up with the demand?especially during daytime when my speed drops to 30% of my subscribed plan.
I agree very much with your ratings especially pldt mydsl. But you didn’t test Bayantel, I rate it the same as Globelines or much better.
Hi, i just read your entry about the comparison betweenthe 3 ISPs and i found it to be very helpful and very well contstructed. I was wondering what your opininon was about Smart Bro prepaid internet. Unfortunately at the condo where i am staying the thats only option i have for an internet connection. Any advice or opinions would be very much appreciated. Thank you and keep up the good work.
Hi Guys,
Globe Broadband is far better than Smart Bro, MyDSL and Bayantel. Lahat nman yan may problema pero sa experience ko, ok ang customer service ng GLobe. Bottom line is, you can never get a perfect connection from any of these providers, just weigh the pros and cons… read reviews like this… and accept the facts.
My suggestion, go for the GLobe Broadband wired or wireless data only package. (if it’s available in your area)
nothing beats smart bro kung bad performance and bad customer service…
it takes one hour and a half to download a file which is only big as 50mb….
and it disconnects every 5 mins when i am using skype or playing online games….hindi nako makalevel up!!! hahahaha…. tooo bad i live here in pampanga….it stinks…. now i have to choose the other two…..pldt or globe……dahil patapos na rin ang paghihirap ko dito sa smart… 2 weeks n lng ako…. hahahahaha…. sa customer service naman grabe … halos malast song syndrome na ako dahil halos 1hr nako naghihintay .. ath
sasabihin lang sa iyo “sir ok naman yung signal mo ang lakas pa nga e
napamura ako sabi ko “eh p@#@@@ ina mo pala eh kung malaks signal ko bakit ako naddc at mabagal? basta worst ang smart ….
smart is a living hell…. “ooohhhh 7x faster than a dial up”
what a crappy add…. i wish lahat ng smart bro users magsamasama para sumugod na sa ntc(with background music of sugod by sandwich)
wow. thanks.
i’ve been thinking a lot of getting an internet connection in my apartment. This review is really helpful because i’m really half-decided.
What can you say about your Globe Broadband connection now? Just want to know your latest review about them. Because for me Globe sucks!!!http://www.suplado.com/2008/05/quality-service-%e2%80%93-consumer-welfare-and-protection/ this my post about my previous problem. Now I dont have internet connection since June 13 after I reported june 14, (office) because my phone was also affected until now(june23) no technical person came. Already followed up more than 20xs.
I agree. PLDT DSL really sucks. I have to pay 3000 per month for a suposed 3Mbps speed but barely get 1.5Mbps (1.7Mbps if I’m lucky). They don’t want to give a rebate. They refused to downgrade my account. at pinagbabayad pa kami kung magddowngrade daw!!! Sinungaling pa mga technicians nila. Kesyo, tinransfer na raw kmi from Legacy to IPDSLAM but when I confirmed sa Customer Service sa SM North aba imposible nmn dw mangyari yun! Yung customer service rep din nila walang alam, basta basta na lang kmi pinayagan mag-upgrade to 3mbps only to find out after 2 months (and a bill of 8000++) na up to 2.2 Mbps lng kaya ng net namin dahil nga nasa Legacy p kmi. Ang pangalan ng customer service rep na basta basta lng nag-upgrade samin without informing us or checking our account is ARNEL QUERIJERO. Dito cia sa SM North PLDT makikita. He really ruined our life.
nice write up. i’m using smart broadband and i’m suffering exactly what u been through. those asshole in smart really think that users are ignorant where in fact they are more clueless especially when it comes to mac
Yo! Fook those internet service providers! Go! They deserve to be rated.
Nice post!
thanks for your review, it is very helpful. Im currently using smartbro for 2 years now and im starting to get bad service, its slow and i have no connection at all for 2 days now and they are saying that i will be serviced this sunday pa (july 6, 08). You are correct that they answer after 30min or more have passed. When you have a business with the internet as your main source of advertising like mine, every minute and seconds counts. 1 unaswerred email can cause me thousands of pesos.
Again i thank you for the review.
Paul Vincent
Lucky for you, my globeline in Cebu City sucks that I came near toa point of blowing up their offices. Fucking bastards!! I just renew and upgraded my internet and just after 3 days my internet went dead, and until now nothing, this assholes from their call center only gives you reasons listed in their book, sometimes 2 agent contradict themselves in telling you whats the proble. So its just fair and just for the NPA to keep blasting the globe cell sites, next, target their serversss!!
It’s sad to say that we don’t have good ISPs in the Philippines. We are just wasting our money for paying expensive ISP subscription and then getting very slow connection in return. Why can’t Philippine ISPs offer something like 8MBPS,16MBPS or 24 MBPS that cost only few thousand of pesos, like in Europe, particularly here in France. I’ve got good ISP that offers me 8MBPS internet connection, plus Telephone Over Internet Protocol (TOIP, free call around France and very cheap international calls), plus cable TV for only 33 Euro(aprox 2300 pesos). And, voila, I’ve got also wireless modem provided by my ISP. And I don’t have to pay for the remaining months of the 12 month lock in period when I decide to terminate my account by just informing my ISP atleast 10 days before the termination. It’s just lead me to disappointment on my current SMARTBRO subscription in the Philippines after having this good ISP subscription here in France. I’m planning to change my SMARTBRO to another ISP when I come back home in the Philippines. But, I’m just so afraid that when I switch to GLOBE, PLDT or DIGITEL, I’ll just be disappointed because I will not surely get the same service and internet speed I’m currently having here in France, which costs almost the same price for Philippine ISPs.
I agree that Smart Bro Support is a torture

I wish I could subscribe in 3 like you did, but for now .. the only ISP that is not dial in my area is Smart Bro
I post my experience on my blog as well
I used to have both Globelines and SmartBro connections. I had em connected nung bago pa Globe broadband sa Davao. You’d think mas ok ung Globe dahil cable so dun ko nilagay VOIP ko. WRONG! sucks like hell. never ako ngkaron ng araw na wala akong drop calls. Braodband connection dedicated sa VOIP ndi pa din kaya. o.O
I had it disconnected. I paid the lock in trick fee and ngtiis ako s SmartBroken.
first year was hell pero medyo okay na ata ngaun. I seldom have connection problems. Di sya super bilis pero stable namn connection which is more important if your using VOIP.
Never ko pa naranasan yang 300+ na speed and never pa lumagpas ng 30kbps download speed ko.
I’m just wondering kamusta na ba Globe Broadband ngaun sa Davao? ung me mga connection now enge feedback.
thanks for your advise, it was very helpful especially b/c i live near your area. i’m with you on tech support, it can be a b***h to call, but globe replies quicker than either of the rest.
but i didn’t know that globelines had built-in wireless routers on their modems? do you mean their modems have a jack/usb/port for wireless routers or the real deal? hurray if that’s the case. however, it must just be on certain models not all coz my laptop is not picking up anything from our broadband internet. thanks for any follow up comment on this.
Don’t ever bother calling their ‘tech support’ kuno or even complain at NTC. It will not suffice. If you called ‘tech support’, they’ll just hang you like a yoyo rolling over and over again. And when you filed a complaint against Smart Bro on NTC, NTC will forward your complaint to Smart Bro and the same thing will happen again… you would have to call ‘tech support if problems PERSISTS’.
Lufet noh!!!
globe broadband… 0/10 … loc- qc… service sucks… starting from internet connection down to d billing dept and tech support… 1/10 agents – knows how to read their system others not… they give wrong information… sobrang grabe… lagi pang down system… their 24 hrs service… naging 48 hrs … ngayon 5 days or more… as in sobra…

Hi, have you also tried bayandsl?
Your review helps a lot. we’re currently searching the best and worth the money dsl provider for our office. we’ve been using dialup and the connection is really very slow. we’d like to give it up for a dsl connection.
thanks.
I applied for to smartbro before and when I moved to a different apartment, I applied to globe because the owner didn’t want to have an antenna installed. I just want to say that I am so upset with globe right now because a week after installing, I lost my internet connection. It has been two months already but the only answer I get everytime I call is that they have yet to dispatch a tech personnel in the area to take care of the hardware problem. I am planning to switch to the smartbro prepaid. Has anyone tried it?
your right with your suggestions to the Philippine Internet Service Providers. most of their campaigns in the market SUCKS!!!
i’ve been using PLDT MyDSL. and during my first month, it was really ok. But at the second month, i can say that dial-up is better for is connects to the internet but in MyDSL, there are days that you cannot get even a single connection, specially when you needed them most. Some of their tech support comes to our house for some assistance. I hope not that after a month i will experience again the same thing that has happened to me.
great blog
i live in laguna, where there is no DSL/lined internet connection exept for intelco which is a sub for bayantel
for the past 5 years i had 4 internet connections
intelco (DSL)
PT&T (DSL)
smartbro
globe wireless
intelco: poor customer care, intermittent connections (like 5 ~ 20 disconnections every hour),but fast internet speeds. at 256kpbs,and when i get lucky with no disconnections, for 256kpbs i downloaded a file at 1gb in less than an hour. (got intelco disconnected nov 2007)
PT&T: fast internet,fast CSRs,but my god! for a 256kpbs. 3,000 O_O
smartbro: the worst!!! i got this in nov 2007 had it disconnected in august 10,2008.9months of torture!!! every week i had contractors going up and down my roof! from the 1st HOUR of subscription up until now,i want to strangle someone.and just so im free of smart.they still owe me 4,000~5,000.i said to myself.to hell with that!! ohh yeah! 8kpbs connection is indeed 7x faster than dial up
globe wireless: i just got this last saturday,my only comment so far is that they advertise a 512kbps connection.but you don’t get that!! it goes up and down like a seesaw! from 700 ~ 900 kbps!! hahaha!! and the thing that i like is,if you get poor signal in one area.you can go to another area or find a place where there’s good connection.its great specially if you have a laptop.i work in tagaytay.and everyday i bring my laptop and my modem
and i doubt they have “congested” problems.they have a limit of 60 per “box” after that they upgrade. and!! and!! when i went to globelines, they said that my area was not ideal for a wireless.but… i never saw anything not ideal with my area.
ohh yeah!! the other thing good about globe, unlike smart, the conduct field test first before they install you modem.like in my case, someone went to my place before they made me sign an application form
hahaha!! im so happy
I find PLDT MyDSL to be the best in my area (In Malolos, Bulacan)
When I was still subscribed to PLDT, speeds would reach upto 160kbps! (no kidding)
Now I switched to SmartBroken, hoping it would give me a better speed, but it only gives a max of 30kbps.
WTF???!
That’s not even 1/4 of the speed I was getting with PLDT!!!
Nice Blog!!!
Im from cebu city and there seems to be no good ISP in our area…
i have smart bro…and believe me its no good at all they promise 384 kbps but i dont even get half the speed…I’ve used a lot of internet speed optimizer software but to no avail the speed still sucks especially when your downloading something (20kbps is the fastest W 15-20 minutes….
Thank you so much for this info! I’ve been thinking of switching my ISP to Globe. I’m using smartbro and it sucks. REALLY REALLY SUCKS. Sometimes I would get 1 week of very poor internet connection and the tech people I talk over the phone are rude. Thanks again!
IS GLOBE BROAD BAND (*WIRED*) AVAILABLE IN BACOOR CAVITE AT MOLINO PARKHOMES IN AREA B????
Since February 2007 connection ng SmartBro namin. Nung na ok naman sya. Me time na mabagal pag tanghali nung 2007.
Location: Cebu
My previous ISP: SmartBro Wireless
Speed is okay. Connection reliability is excellent. I only got disconnection problem twice in one year and it was restored in a matter of 3 days each event. Their customer service in the malls sucks though.
My current ISP: Globelines Broadband
Reason of shift from previous ISP. This one has a landline bundled into the package. Speed functions as advertised. But my Globelines experience in two months is a nightmare! Their system will drop you from the IP pool every now and then, sometimes minutes, sometimes one or two hours. Not good, when you try to upload large files to your company server. Grrrrrr! Three times I was disconnected for days. Downtime total: one month (in two months run time!)
Solution 1: Try PLDT MyDSL
Solution 2: Reapply for SmartBro Wireless. I don’t care about their customer service anymore as long as I have stable connection, and don’t have to reset my router every hour.
I very much agree with the byline “faster than dialup” crap, dialup is almost a thing of the past na kaya. i’m currently scouting for an available isp here in meycauayan. DIGITEL (digitel-bida) connection is a humongous rip off. i wish bayantel can reach our area. we have bayan dsl at our house in QC at subscribed speed of 250 kb/s, i do a speed test with speakeasy and dslreports.com. (i highly recommend these speed test servers it really reflects your true bandwidth) gives a result of 230-340 kb/s which is just fine at peak hours. Whereas Our subscribed speed with digitel is 830 kb/s but server results gives us 150 kb/s. They fool people of bulacan when they advise us to do a speed test with their own digitelone server dahil “compatible daw”, sure enough test results from their server gives us 750-790 kb/s. dun lang malakas?!!. if you don’t know any better you’d settle not complaining anymore. It takes a decade to load a 2 minute video from youtube! i can only watch youtube videos in QC whenever i go there. i think DIGITEL is holding back on infusing more to improve their system. lure more subscribers muna yata bago mag invest
You might be a globe telecom employee thats the reason why you admire globe,,,,, To tell you frankly i am a globe subscriber for almost a year and im sure their technical support on field needs more training coz they dont know how to repair the problem… And their connection is running so SLOW…. find a friend you are in cebu with a GLOBE BROADBAND Connected and hear their cry about the globe broadband,…
@James – are you referring to “You might be a globe telecom employee thats the reason why you admire globe,,,,, ”
Excuse me, I don’t work for Globe. If you have read everything in here, you will see I am only talking of my area which is Pasig city where my 3 ISP connections are.
hi I was wondering if your globe broadband (wifi) still works at its best nowadays?
hi guys,
Is anybody knows if how’s the PLDT DSL connection in Pasig? coz im planning to get PLDT DSL. Can you advice me guys what’s the best ISP?
hi, im planning to get broadband soon kasi i need it for chatting using the webcam, which do you think would be best? globe? what speed should i get? oh and i heard from another review that globe has problems when it comes to downloading torrents, is that true? can u email me back if ever? angelfeliciano17@gmail.com
thanks!
How to MyDsl through internet? Please reply
This review is very helpful since I’m thinking of acquiring an Internet service at my pad. Especially when you mentioned that GLOBE provides wifi equipment since I’ve got a number of equipments that are wifi ready (that info really hit the spot).
Kudos to you Noemi! Thanks.
thanks God for being able to read your article..we have the same dilemma with regards to the internet connection. i am using smart bro since Aug 1 and my God, i haven’t getting a stable connection yet. and they don’t want to release me in the lock-in period for the service that i cant use. they already sent technical supports for the nth times but no progress yet. they are also keep on telling me that my antenna has a slight misalignment even if its not and the base station daw is under construction. i’m pissed off

4.download CABLENUT PROPERLY HELP YOU**
The answers to the following questions are very important when posting asking for assistance, if you answer them accordingly it will save you and us alot of time in helping you get your connection optimized quickly and easily.
1. Download Cablenut.
2. What type of connection do you have? i.e. 56K, ISDN, DSL (PPPoE or not), Cable etc.
3. Who is youe ISP and what is your advertised speed from them? i.e. Cox.net & 3000/256 – this is advertised in kilobits per second. If you don’t know your caps please provide us with a link to your ISPs homepage.
4. What are your current settings now? Do a TCP/IP Analyzer test and copy and paste the results (remember to XXXXX out your IP address) here.
5. What kind of speeds are you getting now? Do 10 speed tests from Speakeasy (choose the location nearest to you) clearing your internet temp files prior to each test, and give us the average of your top 5 tests. This will give you a good baseline to go by but remember speed tests are not 100% accurate.
6. Please tell us your operating system i.e. 95, 98, 98SE, ME, 2K or XP.
IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND
Remember your goal is to get about 90% of your rated speed, sometimes depending on factors beyond your control i.e. routers, servers, line quality etc. it just isn’t gonna happen, no matter what you do.
The following are my suggested settings in Cablenut for 2K & XP:

smart bro – yes I agree that smart bro really sucked!!! and also rude tech support. mga bastos at may ganang magtaas ng boses samantalang mahinahon akong kumausap. at minsan kahit tirik ang araw at walang kahangin hangin e nawawalan ng internet! aba!
I started subscribing to Smart Bro on August 1, 2008. Since then, I have been experiencing technical errors with regards to my internet connection. I keep on calling the hot line and they keep on sending me technical supports for the nth time but the same problem still persists. The problem that I’m talking about is no connection and sometimes a time-out. For three months of using the internet service, I NEVER experience even ONE day of having a stable connection. I appreciate and thank them for their effort of sending technicians but instead of doing that I advised them to know the root cause of this problem. they don’t focus on the fact that the problem is in the base station, the Nagtahan and not on my antenna. And even if I want to terminate my account they won’t release me in the lock-in period for using the service that is not good. I don’t think that my money is worth spending on the service that they are giving. i event sent some photos as a proof. I told them to please address to the real problem and if you they want to do that, they should just release me on the lock-in period so I can seek for the other internet service providers that can cater my need for a stable connection. i even call them everyday.
Your contractor came on Sunday (October 26, 2008 for the so-called “last field visit” according the customer representative whom I talked to last Friday (October 24, 2008). And he told me that there is no other way to fix the problem. So on Sunday night I talked again to your customer representative and she told me that my account is for termination and all I need to do is to go to smart wireless center and fill-out some form for the termination service. I took that as a signal for me to go on with the process of termination. That’s why I went to the smart wireless center in SM Manila on Monday (October 27, 2008) and they told me that there haven’t any memo yet coming from the smart bro stating that the account is for termination. How irresponsible can the customer representative for giving me a signal that my account is ready for termination! And then again at around 4pm of the same day I called again the *1888 hotline to follow-up for the memo. And after putting the call on hold for more or less that 10 minutes, he told me that the memo is granted and my account is “ready to termination” and again I went back in the smart wireless center but to my dismay the memo goes like this “the client needs to terminate her account”(you can check your records). As if you’re telling me that I voluntarily terminate my account without any other reason. Why don’t you make it simple and clear that “THE ACCOUNT SHOULD BE TERMINATED BECAUSE THERE IS NO CONNECTION” so as to avoid confusion. Because simple common sense would dictate that the memo is so confusing. This service is just wasting my time and I don’t have the luxury of time to stay at home and wait for the contractors to come in making field visits.
And then earlier today (October 28, 2008), another contractor came and to my amazement the internet connection is doing well at least for several hours. But the same problem occurs tonight, there is no connection AGAIN. And I am having a hard time calling the hot line to report the situation. You need to understand I have important matters to do everyday and I can’t stay at home just to wait for another contractor to come. I need my account to be terminated before the cut off date on November 10 and you need to understand that I will be out of town next week that’s why I need to be sure that it is already terminated before I leave. As what have I said, I don’t want to pay my internet connection that DOES NOT have a connection at all. I am begging you for first and last times that please give me a memo and just release me on my lock-in period so as not to have problems with my account in the future. Please do immediate action. And please attached photos to support my claim.

I had globelines broadband before and recently just moved…and tried several other providers…and I am highly upset at every provider I have contacted. I had several tell me I would be connected and up and running in a few days after filling out the application…only to get lies after lies…then to find out most couldn’t even connect me cause there so called boxes nearest my house were broke or full. It took one full month to finally get smartbro to install what they refer to a wireless connection. It worked for two days and at a much lesser speed then they claimed…then it rained and out went my connection. I called there Smart Support only to get the run around over and over again…telling me that they would send someone to my house…then tell me that they tried to call me and I didn’t answer my phone so it would take another nine days before someone could make to my residence. Then have them call and schedule and not show up…then to laugh at me when I complained then even hang up on me. This is the most unprofessional company I have ever dealt with and I had no choice but to go in a request disconnection…I am still waiting to find out if they will make me pay the early termination fee that I was never informed of…but honestly…if anyone reads this please take note…I will pay the fee just cause I feel so strongly that this is a company not worried about customer care and is just in it for a buck…my advise is never enter in a contract with smartbro…its not worth the troubles. I even wonder if they pay technicians mileage…cause on the night before they connected my service the cordinator called and told me they would connect me the next day…I explained to them I would not be home after 2pm…and if they couldn’t make it before 2pm then to reschedule for the next day…I was assured they would be there in the morning…come 10 am I called and checked to see where they were and was assured again that the technician would be there shortly…after four calls the cordinator refused to answer my calls or text. When I called the support number they told me they only new I was schedule that day. After getting the run around the technician showed up at 215pm and told me and showed my that they were told to be here at 2pm. Why would the cordinator schedule it at 2pm when I told them I would not be there. I missed a meeting and a god daughters bday cause they showed up at that time. So would the technician get paid for every house they get sent to…wonder if the cordinator and technicians have that planned out and share the payment.

I agree to that because i’m using my destiny internet right now and i could say this is the worst worthless isp ever. I read somewhere said smartbro sucks well i say my destiny isp sucks really big time!
Very Nice Reviews… Full of information about the major ISP cheaters. SHAME ON THEM!!!!!!
Thanks Again For The Reviews
i think yung cases ng mga isp minsan depende rin sa location eh ive tried using smart bro for a year 1st half it was ok may kaunting problema lang then 2nd half ayun na halos araw araw na nasa haws un mga tech nila tapos pag madaling araw lang may net may instance pa na 1 month nawala un connection sabi bibigyan daw ako ng rebate pero hanggang sa napa terminate ko na un subscription ko wala pa rin pero ang ok sa smart mejo mabilis un pagresbak ng mga tech nila then lipat ako ng pldt plan 1299 512kbps never had a problem medyo natagalan nga lang sa pag install i think umabot ng 1 month stable ang connection, regarding sa area eh baguio city by the way yun cousin ko smart bro user no prob naman daw sa connection nila more than 1 year na sya subscribed dun sa nueva ecija naman sya.
hay sobrang pahirap ng globe! isang araw plang ako nakaconnect kinabukasan wala n agad it took me 8 hrs pra maka connect ulit. mas mahirap p ang nararanasan ko sa globe wireless kesa sa smart bro. huling check ko 1,200kb amfness tlaga. connection pb yun? 1 day pa lang globe sakin wala na agad connection. tlagang papaputol ko n to. khit may lock-in period pa. siguro alam n nila n ganun ang mangyayari keya me lock-in period p sila. this is totally scam!! magdemandahan n magdemandahan. tnx tlga ke noemi! di ako naninira sa globe pero ito tlga nranasan ko. hay basta lang kumita tong mga to khit ano gagawin khit mangdaya ng tao.
Hello. I’m planning to get DSL connection and I live in Las Pinas City. Would appreciate comments and suggestions from subscribers of various ISPs in my area. Your views would help me decide which ISP I should sign up with. You can email me at robmnl@hotmail.com. Thanks in advance.
i would like to ask if you have any available lines at barangay sta.ana dupax taytay, rizal, the globeline broadband budget bundles.Thank you…
i always wanted to get connected,to get in-touch with my family and friends…
God bless you,and hope to hear from u soon…
I’m a PLDT MyDSL subscriber in sta. mesa. The connection is fine but their customer service is really SUPERDY DUPER BAD!!!! their reps are not aware of their OWN policy. They don’t know what they’re saying and they’re very inconsistent. Very disappointing.
GO GIRL!! I LOVE THAT GIRL POWER
good comments here…I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE MY EXPERIENCE REGARDING SMART BRO….I have been an avid smart bro subscriber since March 2007 and so far things are going smoothly around…till lately I have to temporarily disconnect my line for 3 mos as I will be out of the country by then…when I came back this Nov…I went to Smart center and tried to have my internet reconnected…(before they can reconnect in just minutes) but now…whoa..its been 5 weeks and no connection…I went to their center and ask them over and over and they keep on replying that “we have merged on a new system, its gonna take a while before we can reconnect you”…Being educated I dont want to blurt out my emotions there…so…since I badly need internet and im now using dial ups (pathetic)…I will disconnect my subscription with the smart bro…
RATE for Smart bro (2008)- 2/10- (2POINTS for their alibis, zero for service)
OVERALL: NASTY!
I’m in Bohol. I have a Globelines DSL (wired) subscription recently installed (the ONLY one available in our area). The best thing about them is the option of getting a Data Only plan so you can get a 1Mbps Data Only subscription for PhP 999. So far ok naman ang connection nila. Stable pero they don’t give out your userid and password kaya kahit konting problema sa modem mo you would have to call them and wait.
The only problem is the way they implement traffic shaping para mabawasan ang congestion due to heavy P2P dl/ul. Stipulated in the contract is the subscriber must limit P2P traffic to 20% of the subscription plan (so about 200Kbps) but most that I get during peak hours is 60Kbps and 110Kbps overnight.
I know this is no big deal compared to all of your problems here. I’m just saying na I paid for the bandwidth so why don’t I get the bandwidth that I paid for. In their contract they’re telling you up front that they will be limiting your bandwidth which should be a deterrent pero no choice talaga.
When will we see a Sun-equivalent na ISP para may competition sila na katatakutan at mapilitan i-rethink kung papano mapaganda ang service nila for fear of losing valuable subscribers? I hope soon.
hi guys, I’m from Marikina, we have a globlines broadband, we have this for more than a year now, but we’ve encountered problems with their connection for the last 3 months now. Our internet connection is very much unstable and so inconsistent, it’s like every 12hours our connection keeps coming on and off, sometimes we have a connection in the morning and sometimes we don’, same in the evening but most of the time we don’t have it the entire day. The most annoying thing is when we don’t have an internet connection for 3 days, everytime I call their tech support, before the tsr could ask for my information like landline #, name & location, I will tell it all before they could even ask, and ask them if they again have a “system enhancement”, coz this is what they always tell me, that they are having a system enhancement in the area. So anyone thinking of getting globelines broadband, you guys better think again, their service is a crap. That’s why I’m looking for another service provider, I think I’ll try one of those cable internet like Sky of MyDestiny. If I would rate globelines service, I’ll give them -5/10!
love your bog
i hate pldtdsl. my plan is for business 3.5mbps and paying 5K+. I lost my net connection for 3 month and i have no dial tone in my phone and they always sending my bills that i have to pay them and they continue charging me even they don’t give me services. I think they must pay me because my business fall because of there very poor services i think it more appropriate no service they giving me
now i am using globelines they connected it dec. 29,2008 and that day i have a problem coz i have no net connection and i already reported it to tech support and i have again my net on morning of dec. 31, 2008
merry amas and happy new year to all
God Bless
I’m from Cebu and uses Globelines too. The one with the P995 rate. The first half of the year that I had Globelines installed was really hell. Every 3 weeks or so, I’d have to call them up to complain about the service. They kept telling me they are upgrading. Then it came to a point that they had to replace the modem box. That was after a year of using the service. After that time, everything was fine with my connection. I think Globelines were really trying to upgrade its lines. ;o)
i am a globe subscriber.. during the first months, the service was good but when the earthquake hit malaysia (was it malaysia??) we had an intermittent connection.. i agree with noemi, dont assume that we dont know anything about computers just becuase we are ladies.. and to the cs agents of globe, when ur teaching us troubleshooting ek ek, dont assume that ur talking to someone stupid bec in the first place, we wouldnt subscribe to isp’s if we dont know anything about computers.. now, this is my issue, my first plan with globe was the tycoon, 3500 / month at 1.5mbps, and my classification was residential, then i changed my plan to 2500 / month with the speed of 1.6mbps plus landline.. why do u think i changed?? its more practical right? higher speed, cheaper monthly and free landline.. so they just asked me to go to the nearest ctr and request it.. so request granted.. after a few months, i needed to upgrade speed again to 2mbps.. so it cost me 3500 / month 2mbps free landline.. so after a month, i found out that theres a new plan, 2500 / month, 3mbps free landline… who wouldn’t want that?? so i was asked to go the the gbs again. request granted.. but then, after 2 days, the cs called me informing me that i cannot upgrade bec the said plan is not for micro business.. blah blah blah.. bigger businesses pay lower?? i got really mad and i called cs and asked them that if i could not upgrade to that plan, i would have to cancel my subscription, ive been with them for 2yrs and 4 months now.. still waiting for the feedback.. and as of this moment, my connection is so slow.. i even had upload speed of less than 100.. imagine that?? im paying 3500 per month to get a speed slower than dial ups.. tsk tsk tsk
Location: Nivel Hills, Cebu
I’ve subscribe to GLOBE BROADBAND since last October with the speed 3mbps @ Php1995 . For the first two months, my connection was pretty impressive. I didn’t encounter any major problem. However to my dismay, at the onset of 2009 my internet started to drop every 15 minutes or so. I’ve tried browsing the net for feedbacks from other subscribers and my fear has been confirmed. This INTERMITTENT CONNECTION is a rampant problem among GLOBE “pain in the ass” BROADBAND. I tried calling their customer service a couple of times already, but they offered no help. And I must agree that even their CS people have disagreements with regards to the real problem of my connection. And that just SUCKS!!! And to my disgust, I was even told, when I made my nth call to their lousy CS, that my connection has been CANCELLED because there’s somewhat a problem with the their lines. They didn’t even have the COURTESY to call and inform me ahead before disconnecting my line.
My advice if ever you are in Cebu do yourself a favor and don’t subscribe to Globe. I used to have PLDT myDSL in Mambaling and so far their service is way better than Globe. l would have preferred PLDT if only they have available lines in my current area.
Hmm.. maybe you are located in Pasig.. I heard Globe Internet service in Pasig is really great.. but how about in Quezon City???
hmm, im currently using globe wireless, but connection flactuates OFTENLY.
that’s why im looking for an ISP that can assure me that connection wont flactuate. I am applying for “Globelines Broadband Budget Bundles – 1 MBPS with landline”… im so dismay with how company handle their services.. they told me, “within 48hours, we will contact you if your area is servicable or not”.. 48hours had past… n io info received from them… haist… how can i trust your blog? hmm.. i am planning to cancel the transaction.. and switch to “PLDT MyDSL 38 kbps and landline bundle” because i heard alot Good criticism than GLOBE…
my friend is working at GLOBE.. and he is pushing me away to subscribe again..
whew! this is tough! I can’t decide which one to get. I’m receiving different feedbacks from my friends too. My friend from Bulacan says ok naman daw, two of my friends from QC, ndi daw. Mukhang swerte-swertehan na lang to.
its our choice not thiers.. they’re all selling a promise not the speed nor the support. if you’re impatient about it write them ( email) its more effective and atleast you always have copies hmmmp dont just call. they will always find ways to keep you. regardless of the plans, the billing etc…We dont have choice but to avail of thier service kahit na perwisyo alam nila kung ano gagawin…but we are always right as customers esp. when we pay our bills on time or ahead. thats our assurance but where is the promise? am tired of the term system upgrades, line problems etc.. hangang kelan? the question is are they/we getting customer satisfaction or theyre just training people to handle unsatisfied customers?
REMEMBER the PROMISE…to PLDT, GLOBE and SMART BRO.
Madalas siguro magbangayan ang tech group at marketing hehehe…PROMISE
excuse me.. globelines broadband wreaks!!!they connection is very unstabble sometimes we go days with intermitent connection and they have stupid call center agents. very very stupid. they dont come when you have scheduled with them… in short their service is just a shit! If we werent just stuck with globlines we have transfered to other isp a long time ago.. and btw for gamers out there globelines sucks with regards to games.. promise. tried and tested… swear!
hi neomi! this review is very helpful especially now that I’m looking for the best broadband..btw, your review was outstanding..im sure Globelines would be happy if they read this..uhm, you helped me..THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
I just had another run-in with the smart bro tech. after several months of asking for them to send their tech support guys for a field visit, it resulted to nothing but me getting more pissed off.
i’m on hold right now with smart bro. i’m disconnecting my service with them after 3 and a half years because of unstable internet connection and poor customer service.
i’m going with globe since globe is now available in my area.
Hello,
I just want to contribute to this nice BLOG.
I have 3 ISPs with me and all of them are located in Marikina City.
The first one I have is the MyDestiny Cable Internet, and as reviewed they have a fast connection at 1MBPS @ 999php. I have this service since 2006. I love their SMS support scheme. Now they revamped their system to call-in customer support. So far so good. Had outages here and there. Got pissed of late last year when my MMORPG keeps on disconnecting on me. Other than that other online activities on downloading and email checking are superb. I comment that they have a BAD response rate/time on email complaints. They never replied on any of my e-mail complaints that time. On the other hand I commend MyDestiny for recently shifting their mydestiny.net email to Google Apps. I expect a more reliable email service.
My second ISP is installed 0.6KM away and is a Globelines Broadband 384kbps @ 995php (business line). The 1st year has a SUPERB performance. Works well on my MMORPG even at a slow rate of 384kbps. I just really got pissed on entering the second year of service. They carelessly swapped my line with another residential subscriber!! I noticed that my landline keeps receiving wrong callers plus my clients cannot call me on my landline. They have a slow response time on that incident. It took them almost 2 weeks to return my original line back. After that singular incident, my Globelines broadband restored its shine.
My third and newest ISP is the PLDTDSL 384kbps @ 990php [never got the actual rate since my 1st bill is pro-rated =)]. Located at the same MyDestiny installation. This is my slowest ISP. Rated at theoretical 384kbps but only gives 200kbps. My subscription is just 1 month so I am giving a chance for customer service and Techs to do their job. Now it is intermittently functioning and doing “RTO” on ping at yahoo.com. My MMORPG is unusable. Mail checking sucks.
Of the three, I still like the globe broadband, maybe because of the TOTAL reliability, availability and functionality it gave me up to today.
My advise to ISP seekers is to ask your neighbour, if his ISP is doing great, most likely it will do the same to you.
=)
how would i know if globe broadband is available here in our location?CLSU, Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija.
t really sucks the brain out of me! it’s been 3 months of no internet, then when I came along smartbro center to ask for a 1 month refund, the customer care representative reacted at me on why I took so long to follow-up, at the back of my mind i was saying SHIT!, anyways I’ll won’t get back the refund because there’s so many process to go, actually the internet connection does not belong to me it was named to somebody else, but im the one paying for it. the person can nowhere to be contacted.
Thanks for the review. I’m planning to get globe broadband. location is east bank road, cainta rizal. are you near that place?
Hi,
Let me start this by letting you know my location. I’m from Pampanga – Angeles City to be exact.
It’s nice to know you have a good Globe Broadband connection over there at Pasig.
Here’s my story. I have to two internet connections at home, one is Globe Broadband and the other is Digitel. Both on 1mbps plan. I used to have trouble with Digitel for two straight months of connection loss but they were able to fix the issue after frequent long conversations with their office personnel and request letter.
Now, what I’m experiencing with Globe is almost the same I had trouble with Digitel few months ago. I keep getting an average of 150kbps as of this time writing this comment. I did check with SpeedTest.net for several times but it did never come close to 900mbps. I do also experience connection loss often. What a frustration for a web developer like me to have such unstable connection. Think about client communications. Poor communications with clients may lead to loss of business.
I need a better connection now as my wife is using Digitel in the other room.
I will give maximum two weeks to Globe tech people to fix my slow connection and if not I may have to make steps to have my lock-in period void.
If you happen to be in Pampanga and was offered to subscribe to Globe Broadband you have to think twice or even ten times before signing that contract or you may suffer the same experience as I am now.
Wow this is very helpful, Thanks noemi. Natatawa ko sa comments meron pang naka ALL CAPS talagang super galet as in Growwlll!!. Pero in my opinion, may kanya kanyang depekto sila pero sino ang mas merong maayos na support? at madali ka matutulungan? Plus try na rin siguro ang mga network tweaks like internet boosters and network configs ng computer kung pwede.Anyways thanks again! Ano kaya avail ko??? hmmm… ja neh!
I’m using PLDT myDSL and Sun Cellular Wireless Broadband. Location-Makati
——Sun Cellular Wireless Broadband——
The first few weeks, I didn’t have any complaints. All were going smooth, no disconnections and reaches the maximum burstable speed of 2mbps(as advertised). Then I started to have a problem, my internet connection failed and I could not connect. I tried to call Customer Support but I couldn’t get a hold of anyone for 30 min. So I decided to just send them an email instead of waiting on queue(I used PLDT myDSL). But then I didn’t get any feedback from them.
The internet connection came back the next day so I just ignored it. Then I noticed, after few more weeks of using, I’m having a hard time downloading, streaming or even opening a web page. I can see on their application that there is a connection but the data on the upload and download is really low(meaning it’s slow). So everytime it happens what I just do is disconnect and reconnect and everything goes back to normal. It is a pain in the a** but I got used to it.
Also, I noticed that the connection is slower during the day. I get the maximum speed at around 2am to 9am. I guess this is because they have more subscribers now and thus, there is a congestion.
Connection- 5/10
Speed- 7/10 (for torrent, it is very X5 slow so.. 3/10)
Customer Service-4/10
I like it though since I can bring it anywhere.
——PLDT myDSL——
I don’t have any problems on my connection. It’s really fast!
Connection-9/10
Speed-9/10
Customer Service-N/A(I haven’t tried calling them yet.)
I hope we can make a table/stats/tally of feedback from users. The categories would be Connection, Speed, Customer Service, Installation Period and Price. If someone wants to do this or already saw this somewhere else, contact me at baron_backstab@yahoo.com. I just want to see the results. Thanks!
Torrent at P2P user.
Salamat
I subscribe to smart bro before and it was very 1st ISP Provider, sad to say, it’s a nightmare. I didn’t have internet connection for 2 months, I kept on calling them, ad they also keep on telling me that a technician will be arriving in home but to no avail. On top of that, I was being charged for something that they didn’t provide. I called them about this issue, and they transfer to a different department to file a rebate. Yeah right, I was able to file a rebate but they only gave a rebate for 1month 1 week. Hell, talk about greed. Well, be the one to judge Smart Bro. To sum it all up, It is the Worst ISP I ever encounter. By the way, I’m from Pampanga, so far the best ISP that I recommend is COMCLARK. approx 900php for 512kbps.
my globelines broadband isn’t a broadband connection at all
i just recently switched from SmartBro to Globelines’ Broadband + phone bundle at php 995 for 384mbps of connection speed. it brings out a good deal because you get to pay php995 for both internet connection and a landline. deceived by the fact that i can save about php 500 or so, i terminated my smartbro account and switched over to globelines.
it took about a week before they had it installed in our house, which is quite unacceptable because it should be just within 2 days, as promised. i and my siblings are so eager to use the internet for browsing and online gaming but we were never aware of what’s going to happen once we click on Firefox or open Perfect World. the connection was very overwhelming!!! it drops in no time! my brother had to log off and on to this online game numerous times. cant do any boss hunts, finish quests or even park in one town and chat with friends. my sister on the other hand, had to refresh the webpage to get back online, and this happens to Safari, IE and Firefox! cant finish uploading pictures to Facebook and cant finish downloading videos or music!
i, on the other hand, had to do continuous “pinging” only to find out that there are more packets lost than received! had to constantly power cycle the network, tried to turn off my firewall thinking its affecting my connection. had to boot to safe mode with networking to check if this is a software-related issue but its not! hello? we just reinstalled the OS, upgraded the video card and RAM and installed a registry booster.
we were enjoying our connection with smartbro. although it is wireless, prone to signal interference, we dont get this problem on a day-to-day basis. we only get problems with smartbro when there are strong winds or we have a delay in paying the bills, but other than that, each day seemed to be so smooth.
working or playing online using globelines’ connection is just so intimidating. my brother chose to play now at cafes, paying p15 an hour, which he could have saved to purchase a top-up card for his game. i, on the other hand, had to stay up during the wee hours of the morning to use the internet since it seldom has interruptions but eventually still disconnects in a matter of 5-10 minutes.
tried calling globelines’ tech support line but only to get troubleshooting steps which i basically performed before i called them. although their phone support is polite, they seem to have lesser background on supporting customers with problems on the internet. i guess they are only called customer service reps, not technical service reps.
so overall, i still would want my smartbro, bahala na kung walang landline, rather than staying with globelines and deal with this intermittent connection everyday…
Dear Noemi,
Do you have any information as to which is the best ISP in our area (Echague, Isabela). We don’t have a landline as we are located in a remote barrio far from the town. Smart signal is good but when i bought this smart bro prepaid yesterday, I never got connected. What seemed to be the problem? I would appreciate any comments, recommendations from you.
Thank you very much.
LEO
I agree with everything written in this blog entry. I’m subscribed to PLDTDSL myself and they have the WORST DSL connection ever. The speed can be compared to that of a dial-up connection and I can’t count the number of times my connection has been disconnected, because the link of the modem goes off. I’m soooo annoyed and frustrated with this connection.
I planned to switch to Bayantel, but bah… they don’t service our area.
I’m realy sad because our ISP can give only 2 MBPS of internet, other country is more faster , like Singapore they have 7 MBPS and the price are the same with 2 MBps there. but anyway thanks for the info, i’m searching also a good ISP when i’m going back home, hope to this new launch ISP SUN will be better than this 3 ISP , thanks
About Globe, I applied for the 1MB last March 14 2009 but until now (April 23) they haven’t contacted me about my application.
Thanks for the tips. wahahahaha…
I’ve been using SmartBro and applied at PLDT for Internet; I completely agree with your review. I’m applying at Globe now and they promised feedback within 48 hours max. I’m crossing my fingers. If I get the Globe line, I’m disconnecting my PLDT landline, throwing away my Smart Wifi, and good riddance!!!
@ Noemi
You are right about PLDT MyDSL. There connection does stink. I’m located in the Parañaque Area VERY NEAR the PLDT Business Office and mind me if I tell you guys that their service sucks so bad! I’ve been a MyDSL Subscriber for more than a year now and sheesh the connection stinks. When I call their Tech Support they make me do the same SOP and after all that mumbo jumbo, the connection still sucks. I’m planning on switching to Globe or SkyCable but don’t know which one is better in our area.
FYI: Plan 1995 @ 2MBPS supposedly but after being connected for a month believe me the nightmare will start =)
I’m not discouraging you guys NOT to subscribe to PLDT MyDSL but I’m just sharing my experience with you being a subscriber and having experienced (matched with the frustrations) everything from PLDT. That’s all. Hope this helps =)
Bottom line, there is no reliable ISP here in the Philippines. No one! NO ONE! They are all sucks!
Globe Broadband Wired 1 mbps here in bocaue, bulacan sucks. hard to connect, usually in the morning.
In cavite globe and smart bro is nasty internet connection…dpende nlng din cguro sa location nyo kng congested n..like my friend sa baclaran ung smart bro nya and bilis para DSL..my experience in DSL before is work..DSL is my first net connection..problem lang pg first time mo..DC ng DC n sinasabi pa nila ng Hardware Failure Daw..Eh Comp.Tech. ako nd i know what went wrong..mtagal silang kumilos talaga..my Experience in Globe net is mabagal sya kapag sa Gaming like ung mag HOST is DSL..meron pading rival and competition pag dating sa Online Games Net Connection…Pang personal Use lang ang Globe para sa akin…kc mabilis sa net browsing..
Para sakin e2 choices nyo…
Smart Bro – (Bad in gamings and Browsing)Last Resort or No Option At all..like what i said im located at cavite no fone no cable..parang bundok nga..new develop subdivision kc…
Globe Line – (Net Browsing)not recommended for Gamings.. pag nag pa install kayo wag ung satelite n knakabit sa bubong ng bahay..im sure mabagal ung kgay ng smart bro.piliin nyo ung meron ksamang fone at mtaas ung speed although ung speed na bnbgay nila at hindi sakto dun sa speed na dapat at bnbayran mo..laht nman ng ISP ganun din…
DSL – (Internet Gaming and Browsing)aproved ako maybe ung line ko is matagal na untill now ok pdin altough meron time na nag down ung server nila pero kng speed pag uusapan ok ako sa DSL..pero nung nag sulputan ung mga plan 999 hindi ko n sure ung qaulity service nila..wala ako feedback sa new PROMOS ng PLDT ngayon…
para sakin….globe pinakaworst….amp…1mbps+landline akin…
kc pagtapos mainstall nagdownload kagad ako ng mp3 files eh ang dl speed approx 100kb/s eh ngaun after weeks it go down to 20kb/s globelines sucks.!!!
hi guys, I am PLDT MyDSL subscriber, i have a landline + internet bundled for only 999. the internet speeds is amazing at 384 kbps. i can surf the web, youtube, playing ran online, baby ran, downloading movies, so far i have problems in the start of the installation and i keep calling the pldt and keep going to the business center and it took me 1 month just to install. finally on april 26, 2009 it was installed then. first 2 days i am always disconnected and i cant complete my download and it was always corrupted but it is normal naman daw kasi established pa raw yung permanet connection in the system. then i called pldt and it says that i have now permanent internet connectivity and it is now activated but i cant surf. i have to diagnosed, by the way the first OS is XP then siguro XP may problem w/ the settings then i switch to vista easily then i make a BIOS check then i found out that its me has the problem and the problem can be solved by this:
1. go to bios yung pagka start nang computer then yung may processor details, harddisk, then press del or f8 basta makapasok ka sa menu.
2. then go to your integrated devices yung settings nang LAN.
3. then go to MAC address and enable this.
4. put 00000000 basta zero lang lagay nyu.
5. MAGIC boi ok na internet mo. wala nang putulan.
note: This setting can be applied only to new computer motherboard w/ the LAN card integrated.
Then i switch to opendns try to visit opendns.com on how to switch to their DNS service the servers of the PLDT are all congested meaning all the request on the phillipines goes their and it is slowed down.
use an dsl accelerator. use a downloader agent like IDA. it’s works perfectly with me.
Try it on your smart bro, PLDT, Globe.
So far i have no problems. just email if this helps king_2305@yahoo.com
Another tweak to increase dramatically internet browing, use firefox, use opendns here is the link, opendns.com just go to their website to learn more on how to increase your browsing 2x faster. besides it is US made. the DNS servers here are already and owerwhelmingly congested imagine all the shops and all the people that have internet will request to that server, besides it is free walang mawawala kung try nyo mga guys. for me i recently discover it, it does offload the servers here in the philippines. thanks opendns!
note: this will not affect your downloading speeds, only your browsing in the internet because opendns will be your DNS (your server acting like an address book searching for the IP number of the computer you are connecting to and it will find it very quickly unlike the congested philippine dns server. switch now to the default dns share your comments if its works for you. king_2305@yahoo.com
we hav problem with globe broadband wired. nsa bandang san jose del monte bulacan kmi and mor than 2 wiks n kming alang matinong internet conection. sobrang bagal.. using speedtest, internet connction is fluctuatin.. minsan mataas, minsan sobrang baba.. malala pa eh hindi nagrereflect yung speedtest sa service nila… matagal n nming tinawag sa customer care ang prob at snabi nila na ders a prob with der base. Hay alng kwenta. Prang naghihintay kmi sa wala. Ala pang 2 months kming subscriber sa globe.. grrrr.
Globelines have similar problems with other ISP’s but the thing I like the most with Globelines is that they have the most courteous helpdesk of the three broadband providers I have tried. (PLDT and SmartBro are the other two).
I’m using smartbro and globe wireless internet. Been using smartbro for 4yrs now since we don’t have phone lines here in mabuhay city cabuyao laguna. when globe opened its wireless internet here, I thought i would give it a try. When we tested the connection by downloading a big file, I was amazed coz i’m getting 150 – 230 kbps. With that result I applied one. But after only two weeks after it was installed, my DL rate drastically dropped to 10kbps. As of now after 8 months with several complaints to their helpdesk, my connection just dropped from broadband to dial-up speed with 8kbps DL Rate. Lucky for me I didn’t cut my smartbro account coz for 3 yrs now its connection is stable. my DL rate is 40 kbps ever since. Well for the whole month of January 2009, my DL rate range was from 140 – 230 kbps. =)
i agree with you…
just today PLDT people cut off our line without prior notice…and was really frustrated bec i have no as in ZERO pending or unpaid PLDT bill…
the contractor who lousily and stupidly cut our line couldn’t be reached according to their TEAM LEADER…LOUSY TEAM LEADER!
Officers including customer service reps keep telling me that they will just report it! damn those people!
i’m also a woman and they keep “ASSUMING” i know nothing about PC…duh!
for months i struggled for slow internet speed…imagine i subscribed to plan EXCITE expecting an up to 2mbps speed…they gave me 0.2mbps!!!!! BS!!!!
waiting took more than 2 weeks…but when my Australian boss called them up the service was just after minutes…wow!
smart bro is the worst.. check out my blog to read about what they did
Globe for me is the WORST one!!! I pay for 512kbs… but I only get maximum of 40kbs!!! That’s the highest considering that my normal rate is 10kbs. They don’t give any rebates… they don’t send technicians over… worst! They have lousy customer service agents…
Thanks for the very helpful review. I’m scouting around for the best broadband Internet package. I live in Mandluyong, near Shaw Blvd. Does anyone know if Globe Broadband is still reliable in this area? Is there connection stable? I’m thnking of subcribing to their Plan 1mbps at P1,295/mo (Internet + landline).
I would have to agree with pldt’s bad tech support and how they tell you that they are working on it but can never actually tell you what the real problem is. I have been having problems with my pldt dsl for more than 1 week now and all they can tell me is that they are working on it. They checked everything from the telephone lines, to the lan cable connecting my pc to their modem. They even told me to reformat my pc! And yes, i would have to agree that they think end users like us are ignorant with computers. I am a computer science graduate and probably know more than the pldt technicians that come to our place. pldt dsl sucks big time. i’m thinking of switching to globelines broadband and hope that they can give me better service and results… thanks for your post, it was really helpful!
Hi im a X Smart BROKen Subscriber and a currently digitelone DSL subscriber, smartbro really sucks! thats why id switch on Digitelone DSL here in San Pedro, Laguna well at the 1st 2 months my connection is smooth my plan is 512kbps and im getting a 2mbps @ http://www.speedtest.net. When i checked the WEB Gui of my Modem which is Prolink Hurricane Modem/Router my downstream is set to 2100kbps and my Upstream is 1000kbps hehehe ganda noh? Well after a month to be exact after 4 months the setting was changed. it was set to my plan as 512kbps which is right, but the sucks is im getting 35-70 kbps until now. Thier hotline is dumb they are scripted call center agent i already told her my report number but shes still asking question according to her script, why script? because all of them are only 1 word to say. Now my Connection like a hell it always pissed me off grrrr, And one thing i cant accept is, id Failed on my Online Final Exam on my Cisco 4 (CCNA) which i need to pass it in 1st take to get my discount for my upcoming certification exam, but unfortunately its not my luck…
Now im planning to switch on Globe Broadband the 1295 plan landline and internet. Do i have to think about it? or go for it? anybody here with this connection can i hear something from you?
hi guys just wanna share my experience with Globe broadband and Smart Bro internet. i’m just a normal customer and i’m not being biased here. this is all based on experience.
I’ve been a Smart Bro subscriber for about 2 years already, around year 2007 i think, until my mother decided to cost-cut and try the package of Globe which is the landline + internet. now i’m using Globe broadband.
to start of, i am giving smart bro a rating of 9/10 because of its great speed and stability. the only problem with them is it’s hard to contact their customer support. when i checked the speed in speedtest.net it gave me a whooping 4mbps DL speed and around 1mbps UL speed, and whenever i’m surfing the net and playing online games, it’s so smooth and stable. isn’t that great? btw, i live around QC area. so all you QC people out there, i recommend Smart bro if you’re looking for a high speed internet (this is just my opinion based on experience).
for globe, i am giving them 4/10 FOR REAL! i’m so disappointed with their internet. when i checked the speed in speedtest.net it only gave me 0.33mbps DL and 0.12mbps UL speed for crying out loud! and it’s not just based on speedtest but also when i’m surfing the internet and playing online games. in fact, just for opening google, it takes about 2-3 seconds. aren’t you going to be disappointed with that? on the other hand, what i like with Globe is that their customer support is easy to contact and their installation is fast which only takes 30mins or less.
this are the things that i can say based on my experience.
To Globe:
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE try to improve your service in QC area in terms of the internet. based on other comments, your service is so good in their area, but why is it like this here in QC? you have a nice promo and customer support, but the main service that you’re offering is not that good. please improve it so that customers will be loyal to you and will not leave you.
BTW, i want to make a correction regarding opening google or my home page. i just opened my home page and actually counted how long it will take to finish loading. it took 5-10 seconds. so crappy! and oh, i tried it for several times.
P.S.
oh shit, i forgot to check on my grammar in my previous post coz of madness. lol. sorry for the wrong grammar. don’t know how to edit it. lmao.
uhhh… just reading the comments here makes me want to sue this so called broadband companies, they are never reliable, always gives you the same excuse.. “just wait an hour”, treats you like you dont know anything about computers.. dont give in to their B.S!! fight people!!! ..and when youre late on your payments they cut you off right away!! ..i mean wheres the service in the first place!!!
I’m also a Globe broadband subscriber (internet + landline) having P1,295 plan with them. Honeslty, connection is good and its fast for the first 2 months or less and just 2 days ago, I started to have some internet connection problem. I’ve called their tech support and had tried many times before I was able to talk to one of the representative and it took me less than an hour to talk with one. Anyway, according to them they have already escalated my concern to their Level 2 tech but still after two days now, its not just slow – “I HAVE NO INTERNET CONNECTION AT ALL.” It just says its connecting but after 10-15 minutes I will just get an error in internet connection. They said they will let someone visit our place and I will wait ’til tomorrow if someone will come and its a disappointment that I have a 1-yr lock-in period with them but with this kind of service, they should not offer a lock-in period since the speed which should be up to 1Mbps is less than that when I first check the speed via speedtest. Hope that this will serve as a warning to others but let’s see what will happen….
It’s me again…. And you know what happened yesterday? I got internet connection back once again and its even faster than before. Service technicians from Globe Wireless Broadband didn’t even bother to go to our house in Quezon City to fix the problem. According to them, they just do it remotely (is that really possible?) which for me is amazing!!! I just hope that I will continue to have stable connection until my one year lock-in period expired for the P1,295 (internet + wireless phone) package plan that I have with them. Good day to all!!!
How come you did not include BayanDSL..Their customer support is superb both in phone and email. I wanted to try Globelines too but they have no line yet running here in 60 JP Rizal st. What a pity..though, i am very happy with the speed of their support team. PLDT is the worst ever since..if you are top manager, or you know one, support would be much faster..
By the way, it would be very helpful if people leaving comments indicate the street address near them or barangay to pinpoint their nearest location para malaman ng reader kung saang area talaga pangit ang DSL service. We are the ones testing the throughput and signal strenght of the “providers”

I’d like to agree with your globeline Broadband review… but sad to say… this ISP has been giving me headache for almost 6 months now and counting… Their supposedly “UNLIMITED” access isn’t unlimited as you would like them to be. This all started late 2008 and until now… they haven’t given me any explanation as to why I always get dropped connection and for the past 6 days… I don’t have any… and I mean ANY connection at all…
Most of the people answering their HOTLINE number doesn’t have any clue what they are talking about and if you talk to their supervisor… it’s even worst… I have to clarify that when I said most, it mean that there are a few who are intelligent enough to know what they are talking about but 90% of the people there are just reading the spiels… No matter what you say… they’ll always answer with the what ever written spiel they have even if it doesn’t make sense… Like you said, they’ll assume that you don’t know anything about computers… I hope they put it in their thick skull that before any user would call them, they’d already made the preliminary check. Who is stupid enough to call right away when a slight fluctuation happens knowing that if you call their HOTLINE, you’ll be talking to more often than not, clueless operator.
at this point in time… GLOBELINES is the worst ISP i’ve ever used… Now I’m wondering why I move to globe when Destiny was doing okay… Grrrr….
i been using globe broadband in the last 6 months, and no problem since then but lately its getting worst, it started on off line for 3 times a day, and its a total disaster, i dont have a internet for about a week now they told on the customer center that they are fixing it with in 2 to 3 days, but now its nearly a week and still no internet in my place but my neighbors is having good service internet on globe broadband, these is the worst service provider that i have encounter, i hope they can start fixing my internet……….
Hi, I’m from Davao City. Nagsubscribe ako sa Globe Broadband last March (SM Davao City branch) then I paid 1500 for that (ZTE modem). After a week bigla na lang walang connection, the agent (Edward Mahinay) said na papalitan nya ng wired connection tapos dagdag lang ng another payment but until this very time walang nangyari meaning charge to experience na lang yun. Nakakabwesit din yung branch nila kasi puro lang promise ng refund eh wala naman. Kaya advise ko sa mga gustong magkanet connection piliin nyo yung reliable talaga na ISP para sulit babayran nyo. I agree GLOBE BROADBAND SUCKS! Globe Scam! and take note I’m from Davao kaya wag na lang kayo magsubscribe sa Globe or magrely sa Globe broadband lalo na from SM branch…better choose MyDSL or Smart Bro.
i’ve been using globe broadband 995 plan and it sucks.. techs, and cs sucks too.. grr
PALAGI NA LNG WLANG NET.HALOS ARAW ARAW PALAGING WALA.EVERY 1 MIN MAWAWALAN NG NET,ANO BA YAN!THATS ALL.katulad ngayon nagtatype ako ng comment pero napuputol kc nawawalan ng net.

hi – was just wondering if you were happy with Destiny Cable internet, why did you terminate their services and switched to another provider. thanks
too bad i read this review a lil late. Im currently a pldt mydsl customer and i am planning to switch to globelines. i originally signed up for the 999 bundle. i was misled by the agent stating that internet speed would be 1mbps but i found out 3mos later that it was 512kbps only. so i had to upgrade coz i watch tv series online. anyway, having pldt is a huge pain in the a**. my first prob was with the installation. they installed everything last october 10, 2008 but all i had was a busy tone for my landline. after several phone calls, and 2 weeks later they were able to finally sort it out but the phone number they gave me was that of an old medical facility, so i got several calls around 6am for a week. internet connection is crappy, i always have a connection problem every week. you have to dispute the bill as well for the days i had no internet which took up a lot of my time. the phone handset and the modem they gave me we’re also rubbish, i think they were refurbished coz even their supervisors can’t comment anything about them. anyway i don’t recommend pldt at all. the technicians told me that my line is in an old congested box and they are planning to switch me over and change my phone number to get a faster and continuous internet connection. they even told me that the pldt agents just wanted to get commisions out of me thats why they signed me up for the package eventhough they knew that the line we have in our brgy (im from bagumbayan, qc at the back of eastwood) can’t accomadate anymore subscribers and even suggested that i just disconnect from their service.
anyway, they treat me like i don’t know anything, so far though, to get back at them for giving me a poor service, i’ve made their job more difficult by being the most difficult customer they ever had. i always pay my bills on time, sometimes i even pay more than what they ask of me so i expect to get excellent service for the hard earned money im giving them. anyway for you guys out there who has the same prob with mydsl, be difficult customers sometimes, always dispute the charges they’ve made for every disruption in your service. ask for jeng bauto from the billing dept. he is the operations manager. that way they would really do something about your complaints. the problem with filipino consumers is that we tend to just keep mum, never complain if we have problems on the services we pay for and just decide to live with it. its our right to complain. so far, because i always complain, i end up having my handset replaced 4x, my modem replaced twice and my bill deducted around 5k. im not saying though that you complain para manlamang, i pay the calls i make abroad even if i just reach voicemail, all im saying is kung karapat dapat icomplain kasi yun naman binabayaran mo, then go complain, pag kelangan nila iremove yun sa bill mo, then have them do it.
just an update guys, no globelines service on my area, too bad i have to deal with their crappy service for the meantime. plan to file a complaint against mydsl sa ntc. i would suggest you all do the same!
Since it seems that every local ISP boast of their own superiority, I’d take their marketing circus with a grain of salt… because our current telecom infrastructure looks like a maddening tangle of spaghetti. Look up on the pole outside and see how bad it is.
Furthermore these ISPs don’t seem to mind the fact that their interconnection disagreements serve to make things worse. Even some corporations couldn’t get quality service.
As of now walang kwenta ang globe 1 motnh straight may problem ako sa globe ko.. walng adsl connection…
Do you have plans in trying Bayan DSL? I am interested in their performace.
Cheers!
nyaks! ang globe ngayon ay meron ng capping!
I’m also facing the same dilemma right now because we moved to an area in Multinational Vill (P’que) that doesn’t have dsl lines installed from pldt yet. I have been using smart bro usb and though it is slow I can live with it for the moment and they reduced the prepaid rates so it’s ok. I’ll share my experience with both pldt dsl and globelines, for more than a year I was using pldt dsl and experienced no problems. Very smooth connection. Probably because my pldt phone line was new. My brother in Pandacan experienced otherwise with a phoneline that was existing for 10 years already. Sadly I had to disconnect pldtdsl when we moved out of the rented apartment last May. Prior to subscribing to pldt dsl, last Dec 2007 I had globelines installed (landline+broadband)and it was a horrible experience. I do tech support for internet connections for US companies ( dsl internet before and cable internet now)so I know how to ts for connection problems. Using globelines, the one week trial period was good but it was hell after that. 3 agonizing months of intermittent, no connection and no browse calls to their useless tech support number. Finally a manager advised me to bring the modem to the business office and ask to disconnect the service. Of course i will have to pay for the pre termination fees stated in the contract which I angrily declined. I had to write the VP for whatever department and request that the charge must be waived and that was it. I got reimbursed. These isp’s should not charge us for unused services. do not allow these companies to charge u and scare u with the the pre term fees. If they cannot deliver the service..demand a refund or do not agree to pay for the pre term fees.
paanong ngyari na ang pldt worst sa lugar mo baka globelines ang worst sa lugar mo i try mo kaya muna bago ka mag comments…
Globe’s Broadband service is reliable enough when it works. But after-sales service SUCKS even more than a cheap whore ever could.
For four days recently I had no broadband, and after 13 or so calls to Globe’s Repair Service (173), still NOTHING. No feedback or updates from them either. They keep asking for your number but never call. On the fourth day, while call-center agents did answer you, apparently Repair itself was under repair, because I was told some “system activity” was ongoing and they “could not access my account” or update my request for service. That one for 18 hours! Imagine that, Repair service being offline for 18 HOURS??? Jesus!
Finally I had enough. Yesterday I finally terminated my Broadband account with Globe and will switch to another ISP.
So if you’re planning to get Globe’s Broadband, better forget it. You’re just bending over for this corporation to screw you.
I was using globe tattoo before..pero i decided to switch to PDLT.. Globe broadband tattoo sucks.. high ang signal pero ni super bagal.. i cant even load kahit simpleng websites like google . tapos ang lakas pa magbawas ng load. Yung PLDT naman, palaging sira..gusto ko na ibato ang modem!!pati phone laging walang dial tone. tapos ang tagal pa ng respond nila..hindi nila agad nirerepair..and worst is incompetent ang customer service nila..as in bulok talaga!!!PLDT REALLY SUCKS!!! kahit wala akongd apat problemahin, sumasakit ulo ko sa super pangit na service ng PLDT!!!

hi! im wondering why my comment about digitel service was deleted.
i read earlier comments to your article and some were pretty nasty. i just used word ‘ digitel disservice ‘ and ‘ digitel can go to hell ‘ and thats it.
anyway, hoping this wont get deleted, im saying that aside from very bad digitel dsl ‘ service ‘ digitel does not even bother to give its customers, in my case particularly, any feedback on customer complaints. no return call, no text message, no email. not even a computer generated acknowledgment of the complaint. all thats given is a service report number complaint which of course gets buried under maybe a ton of other computer junk files, as digitel seem to treat customer complaints.
anyway, i just mentioned that coz your article mentioned that pldt technicians gave you telephone and even text feedbacks to assure you they are doing something.
Smart here is better than Globe lines. it really depends on locations. But if i were to ask, i’d still go for smart, their connections are improving.:)
